Oh I know the limitations in healthcare design, I am just wishing they push the design envelope a little. IMO, the throw back design choices lead to an opposite impression with the cutting edge medicine innovation that Northwestern provides, and it leads to that area being asthetically dismal. The new Prentis Hospital has a little bit of freshness to it but still way to much beige pre-cast. I know the design choices were made to be contextual with the rest of the campus, but when the context reeks of blandness, its time for something new. Children's is breaking the traditional mold a bit as well, so hopefully this is the dirrection for new stuff to come. I wish garages were designed in a more interseting way, even just a living screen of ivy or something on the garage exteriors would be a huge improvement.

The large garage about to go up in River North should be visually and functionally interesting. The city could stand to introduce some form and aesthetic guidelines into the zoning and/or building codes to ensure decent parking structures.

Yeah that garage will be better than most, still an underutilization of land for that site, IMO. The city already demands that cars must be shielded from view by way of glazing, flower boxes or decorative elements (i.e. the tilted metalic grid over on Ohio Street between Rush and Michigan). We can thank Low-end-burg for these design requirements which were implemented after the hideous garage base on One Superior Place was constructed.

I believe it used to be an alley leading down to Lower Carrol Avenue.
