^ Wacker may be Chicago's new premier office corridor but it doesn't hold a candle on the presence LaSalle has. I think what it needs is a corridor-terminating building.

This may be absurd, but would it be feasible for a developer to build a highrise at the southern end of Wacker that bridges over the street (similar to how the Chicago Stock Exchange does over Congress)? What a sight that would be

That is the funniest thing I've read in a while.

Seeing the note on naming 161 W Kinzie, I'm wondering, how long do residential buildings keep their marketing name? If they actually do name it 'Indigo Place', does it suffer that name forever?

I'm pretty sure it would require an amendment to the "Planned Development"

In other words, it would be nearly impossible.

The detached single family houses at the SW corner of Roosevelt/State particularly gnaw at my soul.

Yeah. The view of an outsider? The very first time I went walking on the southside after I started reading this site, I ran into those and thougth "What the hell are those doing here?", they looked so out of place.

Also, the cantalever on 155 N Wacker is freaky from that angle, because there's nothing visible holding up the south half of the building.

Don't get me started on Dearborn Park. Dearborn Park (particularly phase II) isn't a neighborhood, it's a scar.

Ever seen acne craters on an older person's face? That's what DP is: the south loop's ugly crater.

This will probably be the last photo I post of MoMo in the "Boom rundown" thread. It was fun watching this one go up.

If Tishman Speyer can buy Peter Cooper Village and Stuy Town in a single real estate deal, someone can come around in a few years and buy up Dearborn Park I guess. But if you can't do it piecemeal, that's tougher - though money talks and you should really just have to offer people a bit more than the houses are worth, and maybe get Daley to invoke eminent domain on any holdouts.

Highly unlikely in this fear-of-terrorism era, and even more so because of the small size of the plot at NWC Wacker/VanBuren.

More possible, though, would be a view-terminating building built at, or on air rights above, the site opposite River City (on the west bank, anywhere south of Polk).

If the new river crossing is supposed to go on Taylor Street (not sure if it was Polk or Taylor), then Taylor at the west bank of the river would become a good location for a future river/yacht-oriented residential tower, and would serve as a view-terminator for Wacker.

Either that or wedge something in at Harrison on the west bank, although that's USPS land.

Nice picture. Must be Kodachrome, shot around 1972.

Does anyone know how Mid-Continental Plaza is doing? I know this has been discused but why cant we make a thead for it. Some of us like what its going to turn into. Its high enough, apperantly is attracks a lot of attention because it is so ugly (right now), so it is important?

...seriously? So is it the pompadour, the discontinuity of the curtain wall, or ... ?

Im not going to get into WHY I like it, and that should not be of any matter since this a forum, and you have to understand that everyone here has different tastes. I don't like the fact that its going to be half and half, on that i give you credit, but we all know that if the building was all recladed, then most of us would see it as something passable. My question is if we could have a thread, so the few of us who like this will enjoy it without someone over here dying of a heart attack?

If you're taking pictures or just walking by a building that's on the verge of completion, just check to see if it's occupied and if the exterior's finished yet. I'm still wondering about 600 North Lake Shore Drive (N Tower), Marquee Michigan Avenue, the Dwight Building, CBS 2, Emerald (N), and Howard Street Station. I used to keep track of these when I was in Chicago but now I'm too far away
Dan I think The Clare is topped out. Can someone verify? Also, I think 161 W. Kinzie is considered 'site prep' as shown in Solar's photo on pg417 in this thread.

You're right, the Clare was topped out in June. By the way, I was also wondering if anyone's checked on construction starts for The Admiral, 1349 South Wabash, and Lincoln Park 2520. And wasn't some paper reporting that high-rise on Archer as under construction? Any truth to that?

Sorry for all the questions, it's hard being away from the boom after all these years! <withdrawal pains>

At least the renovation makes it more interesting -- kind of silly, but not boring.

Concerning Archer, I think you are referring to the Chinatown Hotel: There is no activity yet there, sorry. Seems there might be some shiny new retaining walls on the Metra line, but that might just be wishful thinking on my part.

Dan, you can count Dwight Lofts, 642 S. Clark, as completed. There are lights on tonight in a couple of units and the housing contracts begin August 28. They've chosen a name and address and put up a website.
