I'm still trying to figure out where the 1100-space panderhack garage for this thing is going to be. Does anybody know?

Wasn't it determined the garage will go on the Lakeside VA Hospital (under demolition) site?

http://arcchicago.blogspot.com/2008/07/va-doa.html

When the next Streetervile Pandermania showdown happens with Prentice, I wonder who wins... Northwestern, or the neighbors(+preservationists)? Or, if Northwestern proposes that it too gets replaced with a parking deck, in which case... everybody wins.

^ Nothing in that link you provided suggests anything about converting the VA site into a parking garage for Childrens Memorial. The VA site is owned by Northwestern, whereas Childrens Memorial is a separate entity so I'm trying to imagine how or why something like this would be coordinated between them.

Regarding Prentice, this is one of the rare examples where I'd like to see more Aldermanic intervention. But whatever: lose some historic structures yet build more highrises, I still think we're better off without these hacks..

^^^ The VA hospital demolition is well underway now, they have begun ripping down the southeast wing. Last chance for any pictures of this building...

I know, that link was just for reference. I'm 75% certain I remember hearing that the site was being cleared for a neighborhood parking garage.

It's not like Children's Memorial and Northwestern aren't heavily cooperating here; heck, the Children's site used to be a Northwestern building (Carriage House). Did the land actually change hands, or is Children's on a long term ground lease? Wouldn't Northwestern jump at any opening the alderman gives them to build more parking? Anyhow, the agreement with Reilly's approval wasn't even that Children's had to build 1100 new spaces, only that 1100 new spaces would have to be built in the neighborhood.

But there would need to be some kind of buffer between it and Quaker (unless its shape meant only a few windows faced west). 300 LaSalle didn't have that problem.

Nice to see all this blue glass showing up in River North.

Way to go! How many more years until Streeterville, River North, and the Loop are devoid of unbuilt surface lots?

Solarwind, you just made my day. So good to see this parking monstrosity
gone!
If only those other empty lots along Franklin St. could be built up as well. I so hate that Walgreens @ Franklin & Randolph, and my blood still boils everytime I see the lot where the old CME used to stand!

If Buck has any luck landing an anchor tenant, that one will mercifully bite the dust within the next couple years.

I will slightly mourn the shack in the surface parking lot next door... "Eat & Drink" chinese food. Best damn General Tao's Lunch Special in town.

me too! i'm wondering what the glass will look like. i saw a model for this building that had almost clear glass. and it looked amazing. but who knows. the model for the tower on state had very much less blue glass than was built. i pretty much trust anything coming from VDT these days to be great though.

Yeah.

Does a great job with the streetwall too. Lot of activity along the North side of the River.

Although the real estate slowdown may stifle growth for awhile, in the
long run, the land is much too valuable in that area to be left alone as surface lots.

It's hard to tell from the render of 161 Kinzie, but is that ugly black wall going to be covered up by the base?

I recently completed a map for NYC and now onto Chicago so here you go. A map of the construction projects over 600 ft tall in chi town. Took me a while to compile it but it was well worth it seeing as I dont live in Chicago and dont know where half of these things are anymore. I would appreciate it if this were to go on the front page for everyone to see. If I am missing anything let me know and I will update it, also let me know by private message when new projects come online for me to add to the map. If you want I can add towers that are 600-500 ft but that adds about 13 more towers to the list and it would be too cluttered I think.

Photo Lither Land, You did a great job in setting this up, but you need to make "1" adjustment. The intercontinental hotel and Mandarin should be reversed.
Nonetheless, great work.....

You left #8 off your list. My guess is Park Michigan (proposed).

?? on the south side of the river behind Millennium park is The Legacy at Millennium Park (I think).

Crap! I knew I left something off of it, thanks for letting me know. Well back to the drawing board, I might just add it at the end so I dont have to go back and remake the entire list.
