I like both! Let's build both and have two touring broadway shows at one time.

You can thank Earl Holding for that. He bought and demolished the Newhouse Hotel because it competed with his Little America Hotel. Whenever he could, he slowly bought up the rest of that block, too... He tore down the rest of the buildings because it's cheaper to pay taxes on an empty lot than it is a building on a lot.

I listened to part of a discussion about Earl Holding last week on RadioWest. They were discussing the book Bargaining for Eden

The author of the book quoted Holding as having said that "I will never be happy until I own all of the land next to mine"

It seems that he is bent on owning gobs and gobs of land, though he really has no interest in developing any of it. I think Utah is going to have to wait until the man is dead to see anything developed on his massive land holdings in downtown Salt Lake City.

See what oil does to people! What a looney!

Just kidding, although I hope he either develops his land or kicks the bucket soon!

I saw a pic of Earl Holding the other week and he looks like he is about to kick the bucket. That guy is old.

I used to work in the marketing dept for the Grand America Hotel... Holding sat in on a meeting we were having once and he was really out of it. He tried to tell some tacky sex joke involving an elephant 3x as he didn't remember telling it the first two times. That was about 4 years ago. He's probably worse off now.

University of Utah making plans to fold up tent at historic golf course

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,700248901,00.html?linkTrack=rotator-cvr-6889

Ashley Lowery, Deseret News

Two large "U STAR" (Utah Science Technology and Research) buildings are scheduled to be built where the current No. 1 and No. 9 holes are located, with work scheduled to get under way in the spring of 2009. Future plans call for expansion of the medical center in the area where the current Nos. 3, 4 and 5 holes are situated.

Talk of the demise of the golf course has been going on for a couple of decades, but since Michael Young became president of the university five years ago, the plans have accelerated.

"In 2003 with the new president, Michael Young, it was very appropriate, with his vision and for the mission of the university to have an updated campus master plan," said Mike Perez, associate vice president for facilities management. "That campus master plan is now complete and we're doing the final documentation."

It just to show that you can't trust anyone. I hate it when that happens.

Does Earl Holding have a son or sons? If so then I'm sure once he does give up the ghost then everything he owns will get pass on to him. I just hope his son has plans for that block.
LOL, how sad that we want this guy to die just so we can have something get develop on that block.

Even better -- Utah BLOWS because Arizona SUCKS!

Kidding again -- I'm originally frm Phoenix. Humor aside, you may now return to your originally scheduled deveopment banter.

Isn't the founder/owner of the Cryatal Inn chain one of Holding's daughters?

He does have a son and I think he has 1 or 2 daughters, but I only know about Stephen Holding for sure. I think his daughters helped pick out décor for the Little America remodel and have minor roles in the company... but primarily Stephen works in the biz. Stephen also seems really, really gay, despite being married with children.

[QUOTE=T-Mac;3721504]Broadway Park Lofts

You might want to get used to that site there. It might be like that for awhile. I have noticed that Broadway park lofts has been way slow/dead the past while, and I found out why. I did some research on the county recorders site. There are about 10 construction material companies filing liens against Broadway Park Lofts. I would say someone is having a hard time paying the bills.
