Two responses from one drunk ass. I just feel that the previous design was more fit for Congress Ave, looking less like a condo tower and more like an office tower. I guess all the added balconies are throwing me off. Balconies will probably help with sales though.

I like the design. The balcony change / setback on the upper floors breaks things up nicely, so it doesn't look too much like a typical condo building with endless lines of balconies... still has a little office building look to it... but yes, probably looks a little more like it belongs in Miami in the new pics. I think the balconies were always there, I remember them from the earlier renderings..

I also really like how the top has turned out. The "hat" look really seemed out of harmony with the rest of the building, I think barely worked with the halo... but when they removed it, not so good. Now, it seems much appropriate with the rest of the design, I think it works really well..

I like it too, but I'm worried it'll look too much like the north facade of 360 as well as Ovation's facade(s?) on the north/south ends with that balcony spine that juts out a bit.

One thing though, it will make it easier for me to model with my Legos and break down to move it around. But I had already come up with a good design idea for the model and had gotten used to it. I'd say I like the designs equally, with a nod towards the former one just because it was a little different. One thing though, I never cared for the crown on the old design. It was too bulky looking. I do however really miss that ring around the top which they had eliminated a good while back.

At any rate, I'm really hoping for a spectacular lighting design. I want to see this baby every night from South Austin.

Hey guys. Been awhile since I've posted a large photo update. Spent several hours in and around downtown yesterday with an old friend, so I had the opportunity to grab a ton of shots.

I'll start off with some great views of the skyline, in and around Zilker Park

Austonian (left), Ashton (right)

The two-tallests

Spring rises in front of Monarch

Zilker's soccer fields

Two Tallests again

Moving into downtown...

Austonian

W Hotel construction site, with Ashton and Austonian beyond

Spring and Whole Foods

Four Seasons Reisdences

Views of downtown along east-end of Ladybird Lake

Other shots from around Central Austin:

21 Rio

DKR Memorial Stadium expansion...

UT's Bass Performing Arts hall... also under redevelopment

A few final remnants of Concordia University's former campus. Texas Monthly tower crane in the background

Misc. Mueller Airport redevelopment pics. This shot is taken from the old main entrance to the airport's terminal. An extension of Berkman Drive will now connect to here at Manor Road. The tower will remain on the east side of the street. I dont know what the final plans are, but hopefully some public access will be available.

Berkman Drive, old control tower, and Mueller's medical facilities in the background.

A few additional remnants of the terminal lot are still visible...

More to come later...

I have been near the old airport area some in recent days and have wondered what the tower will be used for? It doesn't really have an amusement or monument slant as far as I know. I did see that the area and other neighborhoods fairly north seem to be very active. East of I35 has some real potential in the mideast area. I am curious what the feel of the hood is on the old airport site? I recall hearing some idea of a no car zone surrounding a community. Which was to be affordable to lower income families, a probable pipe dream!
Great pictures from all the forumers as usual.

Get it Drunk Ass! I think it has been hard to figure out what the final look will be. There is indeed enough slight differences in the various renderings that we have yet to understand what the final look will be! Perhaps a trip to the sales center is in line!

In any case...... GO drunk Ass!

back home in Lexington but judging by the pics of the Ashton when the 35th floor is completed tomorow it will be the 3rd tallest in Austin passing two in one floor. Estemated hight then is at 396 feet. Spring is moving and should top out before the new year. you guys can have the 100 plus heat one week was enough for me.

It won't keep that ranking long, though. Spring will pass it first, then Austonian, then W.

Nice pics, thanks for posting them. On DKR, it looks like they may be nearing completion but I wonder if that will be finished in time for the first home game. The new renderings on the Austonian look good to me, especially the crown. I hope they have actually changed that a little. Like Kevin from Texas said above, after they took the ring off the original crown it just didn't look quite as good, although I still continued to like the overall design. Hopefully one of you guys will be able to drop by the sales office sometime soon and let us know about any actual changes they have made.

Take a look at his last photo - 360 looks like an artist's rendering, it's so bright and shiny.

One other thing - since they raised the Spring crane, look how far above the current construction floor the cab sits. That is one LOOONG climb up!

HEY KEV! Nice shots. You got a pic I wanted to get this week! .We had this discussion on one of our meet-ups... but let me point this out for others.

Notice the Top of the Koppel building (photos 15 and 16) at the corner of 4th and Congress. And compare it to the top of 100 congress (the building behind it to the left for those of you not from Austin) Notice the top of both buildings. Urban legend has it that the architect of 100 Congress was inspired by the top of the Koppel building. But I think it is safe to say that it was more than an accident. Notice the shape and the graphic horizontal lines are the same. 100 congress use to even have the same little ladder at the top! I hope the Austonian will not block this architectural secret.... but heck... at least we have the pics now!

Kevin and Mopacs, thanks for the comprehensive updates! I just have a few meager photos to add, mostly of the W.

Here's a pano taken from the AMLI II parking garage. The elevator on the side of the garage now says "Retail elevator", which I assume means elevator to parking for retail customers. Meaning it's not limited to AMLI residents. Meaning it's "public" enough for me to go up and take pictures from.

They've just started drilling piers for the building:

Making rebar cages for the piers:

Spring and 360, also taken from AMLI II garage:

An interesting anecdote about the 360. A co-worker has a friend who lives there, and his parking spot is on the top floor of the garage. He says it's almost exactly 1 mile from his parking spot to the garage exit at the bottom. That's crazy!

Hi everybody,
Long time lurker. Second time poster I believe. Does anybody know if the Marriott Hotel on Congress is still going to happen. I havent heard anything for months about it. I havent been downtown around the Capitol in the last year or so. However, I do remember some cranes being in the air near the Capitol. What was built, and is it finished ? Thanks to all of you who let me know what is going on downtown.

I have a question about Spring, and floor numbering in general. Spring is listed as having 41 floors. But if you look at the pictures, they omitted a floor #13, typical of some buildings.

Does this mean that the top floor of the building will be the 42nd floor? Or is it really on 40 floors?

It looks like they have the crane up for Capstar at Compass Plaza. Red one?
