Speaking of updates, would anyone be able to check the status of the following buildings, to see if they're completed yet? If you're in the area it would be great if you'd just take a look... if all visible construction work is done and the building is occupied, then we could call it finished.

In parentheses after each building I've written what needed to be done last time I saw the building.

- Marquee Michigan Avenue (windows on top 2 floors should be fully installed)
- 600 North Lake Shore Drive, North (needs to be open and occupied)
- MoMo (upper northeast corner should be fully clad)
- The Fairbanks at Cityfront Center (east facade should be fully clad with all panels in place)
- CBS 2 Broadcast Center (base needs to be finished and building occupied)
- Dwight Building (needs to be occupied)
- Emerald, North Tower (some cladding details, needs to be occupied)

Thanks very much in advance! It would be very nice to be able to keep up month-by-month coverage of which high-rises are finished in Chicago.

I know the north side of the NE corner is fully clad. I'm not sure about the east side.

Will be checking them.

Hopefully the Marquee have put in those last few windows.

I can't even remember the last time there has been a construction start. Wow what a "drought" we've had. Sigh, I need a new opium...

^ The new apartment tower on Lake started site prep not long ago, does that help? Loopy also informed us of the initial stages of the Aloft South Loop. And Shawn told us the Rush hospital has started.

Have a nice fix...

Calm down. There isn't a start every month so we need opium? OMPW is going to sprout soon. The Waldorf Rental tower is in site prep and 200 is looking to come online this fall.

BREATHE.

At least 11 tower cranes that I can see. Great photo. OMP back there really stretches out the skyline and gives it so much depth.

We were at a wedding at the Sheraton yesterday and I tried out my wife's iPhone camera while we were there. Not bad as far as cell phone cameras go.

I have to say, sitting along the river drinking cocktails and listening to a live band is a damn fine way to spend an evening.
The city looks amazing at night.

Avalon South Clark proceeding under revised plan

The Chicago City Council has approved revised plans for the Avalon South Clark luxury rental towers. The company changed its original plans in response to community concerns over construction noise and urging from Second Ward Alderman Robert Fioretti.

According to Walter A. Robenson, vice president of development for AvalonBay Communities, Inc., construction of the north tower will begin in December or in January 2009, with the south tower’s construction to begin 20 months after that. AvalonBay will file for construction permits late this month.

Among the community’s top concerns was whether workers would build the foundation using caissons or pylons. Robenson said workers will use caissons—the quieter method—to create the garage’s foundation, which represents 60% of the entire complex’s foundation. AvalonBay is waiting for an engineering report to determine whether caissons also can be used for the two towers. “We will do our best to reduce the noise and overall disruption for the community during construction,” Robenson said.

Fioretti plans to review the engineering reports concerning soil conditions and myriad other factors, including City approval, involved in determining the method used to build the foundations. “This project represents about 1,000 units at a cost of $300 million to AvalonBay,” Robenson explained.

“We are very excited about this opportunity and continue to look within the South Loop and other areas of the city for such opportunities.”

Is that park getting an actual name? Or is it always going to be something circular like that? It needs a name.

I don't think it'll have a name. According to the Yo, it's supposed to be maintained by the developers in perpetuity, meaning it won't be turned over to Chicago Park District and therefore does not need to be named.

Besides, developers come up with terrible names for parks, since they're not obliged to honor history. My favorite is "ThePark at K Station".

The obvious name would be Streeter Park to honor Captain Streeter, but I doubt the city wants to memorialize such a disreputable character. They could also steal a name from a nearby street: McClurg, Fairbank, St. Clair, etc.

So I am curious to find out more about the Conservatory Tower? It is a real proposal correct? Why is it not on any other sites like emporis or anything? I am curious to find out more on this building as I am very intrigued by this and I think it would be great to add to the city!

Also, what about 161 W. Kinzie? Anybody walk by recently? It looked as though site prep might be near several weeks ago....

I count 15 cranes

Of course BCBS, Trump, 300 N. LaSalle and Elysian have 2 cranes apiece.
