Also looks like the old owners of the Jolly Taxpayer are applying to move their license to 1199 W. Pender. It will be much smaller though with only a 50seat license. Good location though as there's nothing in that area right now.

Update on the City's biking plans

Given that over 80% of commute trips by Vancouverites are shorter than 10 km, there remains significant potential
for more cyclists on Vancouver’s streets.
The City continues to expand the bike network, augmenting the grid of local street bikeways,
adding off-street pathways and arterial bike lanes, and increasing the number of marked
shared-use lanes where feasible or necessary for network continuity. It is anticipated that the
City will have more than 400 lane-kilometres of bikeways before year-end.
As noted in previous updates, the 2004 Trip Diary Survey, completed by TransLink and the
Ministry of Transportation, showed that the number of daily bike trips within the City of
Vancouver had nearly tripled since 1994. This 180% increase showed cycling to be the fastestgrowing
mode of travel in Vancouver, with approximately 60,000 trips made by bike every
day. Approximately 2,700 trips into Downtown in the morning peak period are made by bike.
This is equivalent to approximately 50-60 full transit buses.
In the meantime, however, staff are compiling ideas and input from various sources to work
towards a potential “end-state” bicycle network that achieves the City’s goal of a 1-km grid
of local street bikeways and arterial bike lanes. A review of the Bicycle Plan will further
refine this “end-state” network.

Is this the old Rogers wireless space on the Pender side? Should be a good fit, especially with the Coast going in next door. Hopefully they keep it simple. An actual bar in Coal Harbour would be amazing (not a hotel bar)...The lounge at the Loden hotel will also be another option for drinks in Coal Harbour, although I'm guessing it'll be pricey and probably closed fairly early.

After moving at a snail's pace for the past year, looks like the Loden is finally set to open September 1st (at least 6 months behind schedule).

According to their website, rooms start at $360 CAD. The penthouse is listed at $3000 a night...

condos at the bay downtown? I wonder if it would get through here? 6 floors + basement now isn't it? or is it 7 floors? could they just use up to 4 floors plus basement for a new L&T? and have the top floors converted to condos? or maybe office space which might be better for vancouver?

re the recent merger/sale of the bay and Lord & Taylor

Quote:
He is currently awaiting approval from the City of New York to significantly shrink Lord & Taylor's landmark store on Fifth Avenue, add a celebrity-chef-helmed restaurant and build condominium or hotel units above. With HBC stores occupying prime real estate in some cities – including the corner of Yonge and Queen Streets in Toronto and Ste-Catherine and McGill College in Montreal – similar plans in Canada would surprise no one.

The actual address is the old Rick Bennett Tax centre, but they may incorporate both offices to make room for a kitchen and stuff.
Everyone assumes Coal Harbour is dead for some reason See also these bars, but go early as sometimes there are lineups to get in:
-The Mill
-Carderos
-The Lift
-Seawall Bar

Looks like Emery Barnes Park still has the oval lawn planned for it - see last page here:

Redevelopment of the Yale - the Jenga building...NICE!

Rendering from City Report:

745 Thurlow - elevations look like a rehash of Bentall V - but the floorplate is rectangular so it may look similar is angularity to Cielo.

OfficeDweller, was the original plan for Emery Barnes Park oval supposed to be a lake or pond like space surrounded by trees, from what I remembered a few years back that was the proposed design, kinda of disappointing, oh well more grass less water!

I remember it being grass - and there was concern that trees on Seymour would block views from the lawn towards the Film Centre if they had a big screen for movies. Hopefully it won't be full of dog poo.

If only the Whitecaps Stadium had been built....it certainly would be a much better venue than the bus depot.

"The Crime Lab" is back, located at the top of Denman and the seawall in Coal Harbour, should open soon.

Correct, the old "Bliss" place. Speaking with the owner, they will be focused on catering to the local residence "first", meaning.
In order to survive they won't be a tourist cash grab only stop, but focusing on year round clientèle for their success.
But still, look for a $14 Sirloin Burger and a $5 Martini.
