Ok, after reading all the Buzz about Baton Rouge I have to comment. Kip Holden did present the projects downtown, however it raises tax dollars in the parish, by 1,200.00 per homeowner. The people get to vote on it in October. The project is not a for sure deal yet. Mobile is very smart in the process of SMART GROWTH. Mobile does not need Urban Sprawl! Just take in the moment of what we have in Mobile and be thankful that you do not live in a forsaken city!!!!!!!!!!!

all of mobile is urban sprawl! at least baton rouge had taken SOME attempts to make a TND or something similar like the Walden development off Kenilworth, or perkins rowe or Rouzan, bla bla bla... there's nothing like that in mobile. What smart growth are you referring to that is in mobile? (and sometimes i feel mobile IS a forsaken city...which is why i probably not move back there unless a lot changes) It is home for me, but I'm glad its not my current home.

Ok, I need help, bad! I have just contacted Austin Pate of Mitchell company about the Starbucks that has closed in Legacy Village. He stated that the company still has the lease and must rent the space out under there company. I know a lot of you like CC's coffee house and I love it. I asked Mr. Pate what it would take to open a CC's in the village. Of course he shouted a lot of legal language and it might take a second to release the spot. On the other hand, I called Community Coffee here in Baton Rouge about a spot in the village. I left a message with Shawn to return my call. One lady had said that numerous Louisianans have called about opening a CC's in Mobile, but have never made the attempt to open a location. If you would like to help, please call Shawn at Community Coffee for the request to open a site there. The number is 800-525-5583, I would greatly appreciate it.

Baton Rouge did not make the attempts to build a TND, Tommy Spinoza did, a former Baton Rougen who now lives in Houston.

yea probably because people ran him out of town!
there was a CCs in Mobile years ago at the current location of Private Collection's...it failed like all the other coffee shops in Spring Hill, because of people's loyalty to Carpe Diem (like my own), although I do love CC's too ( i could go for a hazelnut mochasippi right now), but then i also feel a need to support Highland Coffee's in BR because it reminds me so much of Carpe haha - too bad neither has a drive through for all us lazy americans

sooo im sure all of us are at work right now....do any of us actually....work? or do we just play on here all day...

I work, I am working as we speak! Yes it did fail due to the other Coffee house, but I am sure that this would work. Any place works if you market it right.

Mr. Pate did say that he had a few stores lined up to come in. He would not mention the name but one was a high-end furniture store and one was a high-end store from Louisiana, and somewhere else.

I think I read that those figures from the census did not include the annexation numbers. If I remember correctly from the article, we lost 500 and gained about 1200 during the annexation, so we should have had a net gain of about 700 had the annexation stuff been counted.

There was a second CC's location on Dauphin Street, in the old Mobile Popcorn building in Midtown. I think there may even have been a third one further west, but I can't remember. The Midtown one was near-empty whenever I stopped in. It's hard to believe they would want to take another chance here but, of course, the city has changed a lot since then.

I grew up in New Orleans but I'm sorry to say I'm not crazy about Community coffee. If we're going to push for a Louisiana chain I'd rather see PJ's come here.

why dont someone here open up a private coffee shop there, it would probably do best at legacy village, and the old shell location...

We have a PJ's in Daphne and I do not like it either. I love CC's so much better than all of it, except for Barnies coffee.

Yea PJ's sucks....CCs is WAY better, and too bad the barnies in the mall was made into a FREAKIN STARBUCKS! (they'll probably close that too and leave another empty store...)
