This skyscraper just may be the coolest one under construction in Chicago. I just wish it were in a better location.

^ People keep saying that, but I don't get it. First, it's in a great location in terms of real estate.

Second, the location actually supports the architecture. The fact is that Aqua is not very impressive from a distance. It only really works when you're near the base. So, what location could be better than a dense one where the building is only completely visible from below?

I agree. But I think, as it continues to rise, the effect will be more pronounced from greater distances.

Great point.

I pointed the rising tower out to some friends this weekend while we took in a concert at the Pritzker Pavilion (bad location?!), who weren't too impressed from a distance, but up close (within ~1-2 blocks) were universally impressed and gawking at how "cool" this building is. We'll see how the views from the units and balconies actually turn out, but it is thus far shaping up to be a truly remarkable building in context.

Hope this isn't off topic but have to clear this off my mind....Is that 340 OTP in the skyscraperpage forum's banner next to the ferris wheel but black in color? They resemble awfully close.

The unpainted spots you are referring too were sleeves left in the deck for bring up the control lines to keep the building on line. They are then filled in at a later date when the control lines are established at a higher floor, these are set about every 15 floors. Because the painting operation is on going it gets above the floor before the holes have been filled you see the small unpainted areas. As these holes get filled the painter will paint over these spots.
