While I don't think the ACC is gorgeous, I still think it looks better than the Bell Centre. I like that they used bricks for part of it, but the design is pretty unimaginative with it being a big box that has a hodge-podge of different elements. It looks like a factory or a big medical centre/hospital.

Now the MTS Centre in Winnipeg looks great. This is the way you do it:

The ACC is, at worst, plain. The Bell Centre is an architectural disaster of epic proportions. I honestly can't even begin to see how anyone could like the Bell Centre.

A lot of people prefer the Bell Centre because it's louder and bigger than the ACC.

What does that have to do with the external asthetics of the building? It really is an eye-sore.

As for the size, I prefer something smaller and it seems to be the way the tide is changing. Less is more. People shell out big bucks for a ticket to a game, they want to be closer to the action.

I never heard anyone who's complained about the size of the Bell centre. In fact I've seen several Habs games from the nose bleeds and it was remarkably intimate, everyone seems to agree.

as for the building itself, I like it, I don't love it but I like it.

Ottawa is home to the ugliest NHL arena in the country. It's also the most American in terms of it's location outside the core and the parking lot that surrounds it.

I don't know if you can find an uglier photo of Scotiabank Place. I totally hate that hideous orange and grey gladding on the top portion, but here are some decent-looking shots:

It's ugly as sin and the location's not great, but it's a heck of a place to watch a hockey game. Besides, without the cheap suburban land, our owners would have never been able to afford an arena and we would have lost the Sens in the late 90's.

In regards to Olympic Stadium in Montreal. If it costs so much to demolish it then why don't they keep and refurbish it like BC Place? It could be used exactly the same as BC Place will be used.

The Alouettes could move back into there as they've talked about before. They could still do all the trade shows they need to. Any big footy tournaments like WC qualifiers or inviting European clubs to play friendlies, could be played there. Rugby Canada matches would be done. A MLS Montreal franchise would stay at an expanded Saputo, like the Whitecaps would move to their new stadium.

Olympic Stadium could be looked at as an eastern alternative to the west's BC Place(also an Olympic stadium) and could share these big tournaments. Toronto right now only has Skydome, which really isn't suited for footy, and BMO could be seen as too small for big tourneys.

Halifax has no football stadium, but I think plans did exist in the 1980s for a site in Burnside Park.

Actually, there is one small stadium (Huskie Stadium) at Saint Mary's University that isn't really interesting enough to post.

Our main events venue since the late 1970s has been the Metro Centre, which isn't exactly a marvel of modern architecture but has done its job well, hosting many major concerts and sporting events. It's home to the Halifax Mooseheads, which draw a large crowd, and has a capacity of around 10,000 for hockey, and 15,000 for concerts. It's kind of interesting in that it was built into the side of one of the steeper hills in Halifax, so that you enter and immediately walk *down* into the lower seating bowl. The other side was kind of awkwardly elevated for a couple years until a second phase was completed in 1984 (the World Trade and Convention Centre).

I like the Point Douglas / river front setting. But I still hope they go with something closer to the original design for the new Bomber Stadium.

/\ Canadinns (or whatever it's called) has a very NCAA look to it in that it appears additions were done with out trying to make it look like it was always there.
