The dream was to have a cool retractable roof supported by the tower... after it was all completed, the stadium was used for Expos' games, exhibitions (the auto show, etc.), and other events.

However, the whole roof device broke like 4 times, which made it dangerous for most events, and the Expos moved to Washington, so now it's barely used except for:

Bell Centre: Too many different kinds of cheap-looking materials and blank walls.

Also it blocked trains from going to the much more aesthetically pleasing Windsor Station.

Bell Center is not too bad inside though.

THe Bell centre looks decent from the outside, it doesn't look like an arena but like an office building. Over all I like it, its isn't a loud mouth like the big O and its actually ver efficient, like mentioned, iths the fourth busiest arena in the world!!!!

Yeah no doubt, would have been a perfect location for a park, with a sweet skyline view much like PNC in Pittsburgh.

Admittedly, I really like McMahon, and it's not just some homer thing. Sure, it could use some modernization, but I also like how wonderfully blunt it is. That, and the fact that due to my great season's tickets, I am only a few meters away from the Stamps bench on gameday.

Canwest Global Park in Winnipeg is a nice little ballpark...home of the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the Northern League (independent AA)
opened in 1999, seats 7000.

the Goldeyes have had for the past number of years, the highest attendance among all 58 teams in the six independent leagues and
higher than 13 of the 30 teams playing AAA baseball.

Great pics trueviking. Love that ballstadium in the peg. Would love to see something like that in Regina once the CPR railyards are moved out of downtown. Props on the pics

I think it’s telling that most of the people who dislike Montreal’s Olympic Stadium are residents of Quebec (and therefore Quebec taxpayers). I am a Quebec taxpayer too, but I still can appreciate the architectural grandeur of the Big O.

Being an armchair stadium architecture buff, I think ours is certainly one of the world’s most spectacular stadiums, alongside one of my other favourites, Munich’s Olympiastadion with all those huge sails. I once snuck into a locked up Strahov Stadium in Prague, once the world’s largest (it may still be). It’s not that spectacular architecturally but I wanted to see it just for the massive size of the thing. The playing field is big enough for something like 10 soccer fields and it seats around 250,000 people.

Anyway, if anyone has any doubts about the architectural singularity of Montreal’s Olympic Stadium, just scroll up to the top of your screen and check out the only stadium that appears alongside the world’s greatest skyscrapers and buildings.

The Olympic Stadium in Montreal is by most accounts a 'great' stadium, and the architect certainly tried to break new ground. Unfortunately, costs spiralled out of control (unions, mafia, bad concrete, extremely poor management, technology), and the stadium is rather poor suited for Montreal's harsh winter climate.

Yeah, but only when they are busy destroying the Maple Loafs.

The ACC is that size because it was designed for the Raptors, not to keep it intimate.

Then the ACC is dreadfully ugly from the inside because the Leafs play there. And from the outside it's not better than the Bell Centre.
