The Squeeze Inn is opening up a second branch....and Majin's going to love this ....in Galt. Doh! ETA 3-6 months.

And an update on the Japanese place going into the Firestone Building. It's not going to be sushi focused, but instead it'll be have 6-10 teppanyaki tables along with a premium sake bar and a few private booths.

I love sushi more than any other food, but we have more than enough sushi bars in the central city; so this is good news that they are tweaking the concept somewhat.

I totally agree. I told the owner the same the same thing 3-4 weeks ago when I first heard - definitely too many sushi bars already.

The Festival benefits the Alliance Française de Sacramento, a non-profit organization created in October 2000 to encourage and further knowledge of the French culture and language and to foster friendly relations between American and French people.

The Sacramento French Film Festival is an annual event held in July. It celebrates the present as well as the rich history of French cinema featuring new releases and rarely seen classics. It is the only festival dedicated to French cinema in Northern California and one of only two on the West coast. The Sacramento Bee described the Festival as “the Cinematic Highlight of Sacramento's Summer”.

The SFFF opens each year on a Friday night with a catered reception followed by the opening film. Films continue all day long Saturday and Sunday for two consecutive weekends. Midnight movies are presented on Saturdays for mature audiences. The Festival ends on a Sunday night with an informal champagne cocktail following the closing film. All films are presented in French with English subtitles. Each film is shown either once or twice. Tickets are available for single films & passes are available for special events, one weekend, and for the whole festival.

FYI - Temple is opening another location near the Sacto food co-op on Alhambra - from what I hear they're going to start roasting their beans there.

Sec Sat was pretty fun last night thought the crowds didn't seem super busy. We started out at my friend's art exhibit at Old Soul, hung out there for a while then off to Bows and Arrows, then we happened to stumble into Rok last night - the former Head Hunters space was pretty busy, and they had a pretty good jazz combo playing (lead singer's voice was very good) with a nice gas fireplace outside on the patio. Had a great time there other than the price of some of the drinks...$23.50 for two Kettel dirty martinis? That was a bit high but the company, weather, and setting was great.

Tried to go to Ink afterwards around midnight, but the bouncer was acting like a total tool, we waited outside for 20mins amongst a bunch of drunk obnoxious 21yo's ( I hope I wasn't that bad at that age...oh, wait a minute... ) and ended up giving up and going to Lyons...where else is open for decent food after midnight? We didn't feel like Plum Blossom or Hot Rods and we couldn't think of anywhere else nearby. Suggestions?

Try Ricksha at the on 10th street near the corner of W or Umekos Japanese Seafood Buffet.


I haven't been to Umekos in years, and have been to Ricksha's only once, but it was decent..

Hands down the best sushi buffet I've ever been to was in Hollywood.

Try Mizu Japanese Buffet at 3636 N Freeway Blvd in Natomas. Next to C-Webbs center court restaurant. Similar to Todai in the Bay area. Extensive selections. Large, clean, spacious, modern, airy environment. I think it's about $15.99 or $16.99 per person. Place gets pretty busy during dinner hours especially on weekends. Always a good sign for me at buffets because that means the food gets rotated more often. They also have a Roseville location.

Mizu is pretty good - I went to the Roseville branch before the Natomas one opened and I'd definitely recommend it as an all you can eat place. I really don't like all you eat places, but I had to go there for a car meet. The sushi quality is a step below Mikuni's but not that bad.

I noticed a new crepe restaurant is coming soon to the old Crepe Cafe location. It is going to be another Danielle's Village Creperie. I believe they currently have a location on Fair Oaks Blvd.

Where would Temple's new location be? I know there's supposed to be a coffee shop in the ground floor of the new parking structure for the medical office building that's going to go up on Alhambra and R, and a retail pad in the Trammell Crow product at Alhambra and S. Definitely neat, that stretch has been direly in need of some late-night coffee. I definitely longed for such a place when I lived in that neck of the woods: Weatherstone, True Love etc. were a bit too long of a hike.

Other late night options in MT/DT include Chitas Mexican grill on Q street (near Sac Bee), Ma Jongs at 15 and L, Bistro 33 on 16th and also Willies Burgers near 16th and Broadway. These places are open till 3 am weekends. And I believe GV Hurleys also serves late night grubs till closing on weekends. Tried to go there to eat late on 2nd Sat but it was too crowded and a long line just to get in after midnite. We also ended up at Lyons.

When you walk into Lyons and turn left to the main dining area, we were in a booth at the right side against the wall, two booths down from the right corner in the back.

Too funny - then the 6 of us probably walked right past you on the way out...two of the women had subtle mohawks. We were in the far left corner when standing at the hostess station. After turning left into the main dining room, we were in the booth in the far right back corner. I think we were about 2-3 booths from you! Was Hatham your waiter too?

Anyways, pretty good coincidence.

I was there with 3 females in a booth so I was pre-occupied and didn't pay much attention to what else was going on around us. There were 3 guys in the booth next to us. One of the guys (he was bald/middle agish) was asking one of the women with me if she was from Bakersfield because that's where he was from. We had a waitress with attitude (she wore glasses and I don't remember her name). She got sent home and was replaced with a waiter and I don't recall his name. We left just before the crowds from the clubs closing started to pour in.

Article below is from SBJ on May 16th but Lounge on 20 apparently opened this past weekend. Walked by on 2nd Sat and it was crowded as expected. Also saw that Head Hunters across the street is now a new restaurant called Rok. Image Lounge at 7th and J has also opened.

The partners who created Restaurant 55 Degrees in downtown Sacramento in 2005 are opening their latest restaurant in midtown during the next couple of weeks.

Whereas 55 Degrees is a formal affair, the new Lounge on 20 is all about social entertaining, restaurant developer Ali Mackani said. "This is the kind of place you invite people to gather," he said.

The Lounge on 20 will feature new American cuisine served at community tables. The food will be served in small portions called "tastes," on small plates and sharing platters. The menu is being created by Luc Dudeinvile, the chef at Restaurant 55 Degrees.

The drink menu might be the lounge's most intricate detail. The full bar will offer 30 handmade artisanal cocktails, a selection of 30 champagnes available by the glass, at least 30 wines by the glass and a display of 100 bottles of wine available for purchase.

The restaurant is taking 5,000 square feet on the south end of the MARRS building at 20th and K streets. It's designed to feature a 1,000-square-foot elevated patio.

"There are a lot of new restaurants in this area, but this is different and unique," Mackani said.

Mizu is beer and wine only, at least according to the Yelp review below. I'e never actually ordered drinks at Mizu though.
