The van antwerp building will make that guy a killing if he sells it. You know that they will have to tear down the side of the building to fix the stairs if they are going to renovate it. The staircase isn't to code,and its holding the renovations back from being completed. I think it would cost more than $500,000 to fix the stairs alone. I couldn't imagine the building. But I hope who ever gets it....will invest in it.

Did anyone notice that a Northrop Grumman executive bought a house in west Mobile for 1.2 mil in Jumper's column? That's got to be a good sign for the future of the tanker contract.

My fiancee and I went downtown after church today for the tiger show at the exploreum. It really made me want a nice zoo downtown. If Gulf Shores can have a zoo (that has issues every time a storm comes through), I don't see why downtown Mobile could not maintain a zoo. Bham and Montgomery have them also. On a side note, we had lunch at Joe Cain Cafe. The food was great and the interior is really nice. Seems like they would do a good lunch crowd and maybe a good happy hour. I know when we stayed at the BattleHouse, we would have loved to have had Joe Cain Cafe as a cheaper alternative to the Trellis Room. The decor was neat and the food was great. I enjoyed the mufalatta and she loved the hummus. We had limited options because most things are closed on Sunday and we were a little disappointed about having to eat in a hotel restaurant, but we were pleasently surprised. It was all ladies running the place today so I presume we did not run into elb.

nope wasn't there this sunday. I was in the trellis room. I was wondering when someone on here would go to joe cain. glad ya'll liked it.

I think a zoo would be neat too. I wonder where a zoo could go down there.

If Mobile Housing Board sold all the land from Orange Grove, it would be nice for a zoo and other things. I really hope they consider selling the property because I haven't seen any construction going on, plus that land could be enormous for the future of downtown.

I went downtown today and noticed construction of the new Hampton Inn, its moving rapidly. Glad we have a developer like Cowart that gets things done like he has and with plans for future developments. Also the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame has taken down its boards, looks nicely by the way. The Carriage Works has come alone but nothing on 250 St. Francis Street. Last time I checked, half the units where sold...anybody??

I always through Orange Grove would be a great location for a regional zoo. Ooh, it could even feature fan boat rides down Three Mile Creek into the Mobile River and Mobile-Tensaw delta.

Excuse my tanker rant this past weekend. You might notice I'm a bit emotional on some of these topics as I find myself apologizing half the time for going off regarding them.

Anyway....Here is my new plan to completely destroy the South's water/air/everything else environment by adding about 30 or so interstates/interstate extensions in Alabama and NW Florida (and as a result...Georgia, Mississippi & Tennessee too). Yes I was bored and after being stood up for dinner last night, I decided to play with this mish-mash of maps I had on file and got a little carried away. Someone else can name all the new interstates.






Sure, I've ignored gas prices and limitations, added about $140 billion in debt to Bama & Florida and totally disregarded the desire to discourage driving.

But really, its not all bad....
1) The "light green" represents forests/reserves/preserves I've added to the "bright green" National Forests.
2) The "light brown" areas are my newly zoned Agricultural areas.
3) The "tan/yellow" color is Metros expanding around my new transportation system.
4) The "Olive" color is large existing military bases.

Anyway, the funny thing about the excess of this is, I think it satisfies most people's desires for the interstates they want in their particular area without having seen all of their wishes come true on one big paved conglomerate map.

Muskavon, did you see Hardy Jackson's piece in the Sunday Press-Register about why the Fl. panhandle isn't part of Alabama right this minute? Thought you might find it interesting.

Del, thanks, That was an interesting and fun read. Too bad it never happened. Pea Ridge, Alabama fits much better anyways. We were always a bit out of place.

Lol that map of the interstates is funny! I have sat and done the same thing for the entire Southeast, especially the area around Louisiana, Miss., and Alabama. Wouldn't it just be great if all state and US highways were controlled access?

I think the only one that you missed on the map of interstates is the most obvious one: A bridge connecting the East end of Dauphin Island to Fort Morgan.
