There are plenty of reasons that the LDS Church may or may not be interested in developing a hotel on that site themselves, but to say that they are completely against the idea of any hotel near the temple and always have been because they are afraid of people having sex isn't supported by any fact or statment that I've ever seen.

If it is much ado about nothing, why are people getting so upset over a simple comment? I do not believe the LDS Church wants a hotel right next to Temple Square. It has nothing to do with being anti-Mormon or even an attack on the LDS Faith.

I believe there is a reason why there are no plans for a hotel anywhere near Temple Square. And why the LDS Church has not released any plans for the site of the old Salt Lake Plaza Hotel that consists of anything but student housing. I guess I don't understand why some of you are acting as if I said some blasphemous statement.

And you want to know why I do not believe the LDS Church wants a hotel there? Because it's easy for people to get rowdy and toss things over the side. If it's a hotel -- not a residence, mind you -- this becomes far more problematic.

I'm not saying it would be an issue, but it's probably something they considered. Temple Square is their most sacred area within the city, you don't want to screw it up by placing a potential threat next to it. Just like I doubt there are many hotels overlooking the Vatican.

It also boils down to the plain and simple fact that the LDS Church has stated they don't want to be in the Hotel business and not necessarily because of the sex issue. That one I had never heard or even considered.

My understanding is that they want to simply reduce the number of business interests that they own and run, that operate on Sunday. Obviously they have a few business interests such as KSL and the Des News as well as security personnel, but a hotel would greatly increase the number of paid Sunday workers.

I never concidred these reasons for the church not wanting a hotel in that location and I can see why they might make sence. However I would love to see a hotel closer to Temple Square. I mean, There was Hotel Utah there along time ago, what happened to that? Besides that, why don't they just make it so the windows cannot be opened by the ocupents? Then you would not have to worry about people throwing things.
I do however, see why the L.D.S. church dose not want to own very many businesses operating on Sunday.
Although if it was operated by some one other then the church, I don't see how they would have a problum.

Just FYI, The Inn At Temple Square (which was torn down not too long ago) was operated by "Temple Square Hospitality", who also maintain the JSMB (former Hotel Utah Building) and many other buildings/attractions at temple square.

I was just noticing the new Mountain America branch in American Fork also this weekend, and was also reminded of their corporate office in Salt Lake. I like the direction they've taken with the design of their various branches.

I'm really liking this stone they're using on the library. I also appreciate the fact that they made a little extra effort at the back with the rough-hewn horizontal pattern.

When the Hotel Utah was converted to offices several years ago there was quite a bit of objection by the public. In response, the Church stated they didn't want to be in the hotel business. Although they never gave a reason, it is probably because of the things that can go on in a large downtown hotel, such as prostitution, drugs, etc. It might even be because a hotel has to be open in Sundays, which requires people to work on Sunday. I wouldn't expect the Church to ever build a hotel on any of its properties.

Does anyone have access to or a subscription to The Enterprise newspaper? They have had web-site problems and have not posted any new development news on their web-site since April. This paper is the only publication for the SL metro dedicated to developments. This is a very good source for any kind of new development. It told us about the murray highrise plans, the highrise condos planned for the northeast corner of 400s. and state, the new artspace development, etc. If no one has access to one, I will subscribe to it.

I have a subscription to it. When I get home I will see if it has arrived and let everyone know of the headlines. It is supposed to arrive on Monday's but sometimes they are slow in getting it to me and I don't get it until Tuesday or Wednesday.

The prophesy was fulfilled, in Nauvoo. Joseph and Emma added on to their home, also know as the Mansion House. It was used as a hotel for visitors coming to visit the prophet and others in Nauvoo.
