Are they actual balconies, or just decorative features? If they are balconies, then the owner could stand at the edge and his view would be unimpaired. Otherwise, the owner faces the following trig problem:



This serves for a six foot tall individual looking out his window 800 feet above the ground in a room with a six foot 'balcony' beneath the window. 'X' represents the number of feet invisible to the individual because of the balcony. Any posters with a calculator equipped for this kind of a problem?

There is no doubt that you will still be able to see a lot from these windows, but the area beneath the building will be invisible.

The cement "waves" serve as both decoration and functional balconies. Depending on the unit, you are right that you won't see the city straight down from the window. I don't see this as much of an issue. You can choose between a slightly nicer window view or a balcony which slightly obscures the city view while you are inside the unit. Nice choice to have, IMO.

Okay, so who exactly is calling the shots on the podium and all of its ballroom/outdoor amenity glory? I mean, it's safe to say the rendering no longer applies, right? Do we have any idea what to expect?

Regarding the"trig" problem.... if the intended viewer is 6 ft tall and the balcony is 6 ft out, then it this is an isosceles triangle with a right angle, thus the legs are equidistant in length. that means x=806. (I don't get to solve many problems anymore, I hope that was correct)

But I wouldn't worry about the view, as the unit will undoubtably have some windows with less obstruction. I am sure that Studio Gang have thought out the "viewing issues" for the owners, and those with balconies projecting further out will just walk out and enjoy the view as I can.

Trust me... the view from behind my 12 foot patio is outstanding, even with some building cladding on the lower 2 feet on one side of the front. I sit here and write this while watching Buckingham Fountain from my reclining lawn chair. If I want to see the wedding party in the park below, I walk up to the railing and look down.
Even my family members who are afraid of heights are getting used to it. The real gut check is cleaning the water markings off the glass lining the non-clad balcony areas. That was a trip last weekend. Got me to go out and buy a squee-gee

I have spent much time in high rises, and only rarely attempt to look down to the street below - usually to try and see what the sirens are all about. it is usually not possible because of furniture of one kind or another in front of the window (couches and credenzas ).

Well, thought there are some areas where there will be no protruding balcony structure, the areas that have just a foot or two of wave will also serve to reduce the feelings of vertigo on the residents which is unpleasant to many occupants even though us skyscraper folk love it. This is actually also one of the reasons the John Hancock, is tapered, you can see some of the building below so you don't feel like you are floating, which can be very terrifying...
