^^^ Well there has been some chatter of this getting ressurected. However, new thing I noticed about the plan is that, if you enlarge the overview picture, you can see that the tallest tower is a good deal higher than 311 Wacker, making it probably 1100'ish tall. The second tallest tower is probably about 800' as well...

Yeah, the Rokas/S&G proposal called for a zoning increase that would certainly have tested the 2nd Ward Alderman.

Russland Capital will likely ask for the same density. This is the one to watch to see how the 2nd Ward Alderman will react to sensible land-use proposals that challenge his constituent's world-view.

Not only that, but these are buildings that block the river views from Vetro, Printers' Corner, Wells Street Tower, and all the other little loft buildings along Wells. It will also remove an unofficial dog park from the community. We'll see exactly how Fioretti mutilates the proposal in a few years.

to be honest, i think fioretti might actually let this one go. One thing i have noticed about him, he has dropped hints that he'll let super high-rises happen away from prairie, indiana, michigan, in otherwords, as long as they are away from his rich, over-protective constituency.

I don't think many of the whiners in the south loop would pay too much attention to anything that happens north of roosevelt and away from the lake. Heck, i bet most south loop nimby's wouldn't even realize that this is in their ward because it is so close to/in downtown.

If that's true, it could end up ok. It would be interesting to see, just for a certain neighborhood, the Chicago trend of tall towers right along the lake reversed, with smaller buildings up close and very tall things in the background. Doubt he has any master vision like this though.

Well, that might be a little much for him! But, he has repeated said he wants chicago to have a skyline that will "knock your socks" off and he supports the rezoning of GP4 to allow them to build taller with no increase in units. For that site, i just don't see who could muster any fight against this project. Are the vetro people going to oppose this? It is kind of between printers row/south loop and the west loop so no one really knows who should be opposing the project! The site is 3-4 blocks away from the world's largest financial exchange, a little height seems appropriate. The site wins zoning for lack of an opposition.

Wasn't rezko part of a real estate deal in this area?
