^^ That big empty space is going to be a huge new city park that will connect the downtown core to the existing waterfront park area, work on the site is currently in progress. There are some parcels of land bordering the new park on the city side that are available for development, most likely in the form of condos. Here's the plan for the new park:

Yes Vid, that's the new transit terminal, although that pic is almost a year old so it's a little less white now.

Good. We redid ours in 2005, they got rid of the rectangular flower bed things, and it was really white. That summer it was really blinding, you could barely see the buses arriving. It was terrible.

BTW, I don't think your park has enough parking lots!! You're lucky to start from scratch though. We're redeveloping an existing park, and you'd be surprised how defensive people can be of convenient parking, even when it isn't used.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of all those parking lots in the plan. I'd rather the park went right up to the edge of Oak Street. A couple of those parking lots already exist, I don't think there's a need for even more!

The spaces are useful for big events though. We have a large parkade downtown that the city opens up free during major events at the park so it isn't too much of a problem but I don't think North Bay has that?

It's a good investment. If you do it right it isn't too bad; ours has a six storey lookout tower (which is closed. ) and street level retail.

^haha...that area is so ripe for redevelopment, but residents are adverse to touching it. Once the electric plant is decommishioned in the next couple of years, we will see a lot of action.

they did in the 80's which didnt come to fruition, but there is mounting pressure to "reconnect" this area with the core and create unique housing, office, gallery, shopping, and eateries.
