I was just saying that even back when I was new to this forum with only a few post I still didn't really know anyone on here well enough to jump in and tell that person that it's their fault for whatever reason. Hell I still don't really know people on here too well. I guess it was my fault that I went downtown where all those parking meter freaks hang out. Those guys are always out for blood. Guess I should of been more careful.
My whole point of that rant was that we all hate tickets. I'm sure there's a time in our lives when we gotten a ticket that we didn't think it was really fare. But whatever I paid it and life goes on.
Anyways sorry I got all up in arms about it. I have been meaning to ask you have you taken any new photos from your plane? Those last ones were really cool.

I understand your frustration Projects. Street parking in L.A. will turn even the most mellow people into vigilante's. Some of their signs have so many rules, exceptions and warnings, it's like trying to read a computer manuel. Then, just when you think you have a particular spot all figured out, they UPDATE. I learned the hard way to read, reread and reread again, LOL.

True it's like you do have to reread the signs sometimes. I that reminds me once when I went downtown to had to pay for a speeding ticket at the SLC Courts building on 200 East just across the street from the new Metro Condos. Not sure what the city was thinking when they build a building with NO PARKING. I even ask them if there was any parking and they told me no there isn't. You would just have to find parking else where and walk. There is a Burger King on the corner of 400 South and 200 East. I thought I would park there get something to eat and then walk two buildings down to the Court building.
Well there was one small sign on that whole lot that in big letters said "Parking for customers only" So I thought everything would be alright since I was going to eat there anywhere. So I went to pay the ticket at the court building. Once I can back I saw a boat on my car. What the hell? So I went up to my car and the guy who boated me came up to me and told me it would be $80.00. I told the guy that I was a customer. He then told me to read that little sign again. I had to walk across the lot to read the sign again and there was more with little letters that says something like you can't leave this lot or some bullshit like that. I yelled at the guys telling him what bullshit it is to have ONE sign with letters so tiny most people would have to walk all the way up to the sign just to read it. So to make a long story short I ended up having to pay that shithead $80.00.
That was fare worst then the ticket I got the other day since it was $80.00 and I had to pay him there and then. I had to go find a freaking A.T.M machine and the how time that guy was an ass. He keep saying you have about 10 mins to pay up of I'm going to tow your car.
Anyways that Burger King has since posted more signs on their lot. I think the city got on them for that.


Does anyone else have a downtown parking story they want to share? LOL

No I know of at least one other. Its called the Kimball. Its right by the LDS Conference Center. I haven't heard of any others downtown.

I almost have the exact same story.....

I was presenting my final presentation at an architects office in the Downtown area. I parked at the Westgate business center parking lot. It was after 5. The sign said permit required 8-5. I didnt have the correct change on me, all I had was a 20 dollar bill in my wallet. And I sure as heck wasnt going to pay 20 for parking. So, I being the honest person I am went inside the office to get change, well, I got side tracked with my presentation, and after my interview I had a boot on my car. Turns out you have to pay before you leave the lot(which is understandable), and of course you cant leave the premises, because the parking was for westgate business tenants only. It was freaking after 7:00 pm on a tuesday night. So, its not like the businesses were using them. I told the guy that I needed to get correct change, and thats why i left the lot. This guy had been sitting in his truck at the back of the lot the whole time, just waiting to catch a victim...He just kept telling me, call the number on here to dispute anything... the guy was a freaking low life drone, probably some low life they pay 10 bucks an hour to go boot cars, and tow if neccessary. well, i finally decided the only way to get my car and go home was to pay the douche his money. So, 80 bucks... well, I didnt have it in cash, so i asked if he took debit cards. He tells me his debit machine is broken so, I will have to find an ATM. Well, the nearest one is at the gateway... so 2 block walk, and a service fee later for using the ATM. I was 82.50 dollars poorer. I balked that I shouldnt have to pay the service fee because its not my problem his debit machine is down.... all he said was "call the number sir" I was so irritated. I told him just take the damn thing off my car and get on with his miserable life". stupid peon.

i debated calling my brother and telling him to come down with his torch and cut the dang boot off. Or just jacking up my car and putting on my spare tire. lol, but they say right on the ticket that tampering with the device is some blah blah offense or whatever...


did i bother calling the number to dispute, no. I wasnt about to sit on hold, and try to dispute the thing. My time is more valuable then that. They can keep the stupid 80 bucks. miserable piss ants.

still frustrates me, even though it was over a year ago.

I really like the timeshare/hotel project. I've always liked the Barnes Bank Building. I like the way that it is situated on the lot. I just want to make sure the bank stays open...it's the only branch downtown.(Sidenote they are a great banking organization. I've always been impressed.)

Also, the new renderings on Huntington Park are far better than the originals. I think that will really help to clean up those blocks.

Projects: I don't remember who it was that posted that when they lived in Sydney, Australia, they didn't own a car. I had a similar experience when I lived in Switzerland and worked throughout Western Europe in the mid-90's. Didn't need a car. Mass transit did the trick, even in the mega cities of Paris, Rome, and London. I never needed a car, and it was a pain to have one.

Of course, European cities, with the exception of Paris and London, are not as spread out as cities in the US. But even in London, where I probably made 50 trips, I always used mass transit, even when my business took me 50 to 100 miles outside of the City. Yes, there were some long days, riding the tube, then Brit Rail, then in a taxi and back again. But it always worked. I think your mind operates differently when a car is not an option.

Of course, all of this solves parking problems. And, of course, SLC is a long way away from having that level of mass transit. But it is possible. And you'd be surprised how few parking lots or garages there are in these cities. Density is king!

Just a couple of notes from today's news that applies to our on-going discussions...first, the front page of today's business section in the NY Times has an article about oil futures hitting $200 a barrel (today they are slightly over $125 per barrel) before the end of the year. According to the Times, this puts pump prices at $6.00 per barrel. Let's hear it for mass transit and non-foreign sources of oil, like shale!

Second, the Air Force has scheduled a site visit to Hill AFB to review the base's capabilities to handle the new Air Force Cyber Command. I think Hill has a real shot at getting this command, which will be an enormous boost to the Weber and Davis counties, as well as the entire State. What pleases me most is that the Command will develop the highest and cleanest of technologies--doesn't get much better economic development than that.

I've always like the Barnes Bank building it alway reminds of Mies Van Der Rohe. I do like the new design though it looks like it keeps the facade farily intact just sexing it up a bit and who wouldn't like that. lol

I have noticed for a while now that there is a cool old warehouse that is being converted to something behind the gateway on the corner of 5th west and 2nd south but haven't heard anything about what it is being turned into. Does anyone know what going on there?

Projects- if it makes you feel any better I recently got back to back tickets on back to back days by the same cop! (I was even looking for him the second time!) In summary, don't take the corner on the east side belt at 85+

On a lighter note I purchased a scooter this spring. It is my own personal way of fighting big oil/terrorists, and having a blast getting around town. No it is not very manly, but it is a joy to fill at the pump when you realize you went over 80 miles on a 1 galon tank So gimmie a shout. I'll be the too-tall-for-a-scooter geek buzzing down South Temple with a smirk on his face. Helps me keep it under 85 too.


One more thing- you can find parking ANYWHERE with a scooter!

Yeah StevenFA07 or something like that (he's a fellow forumer) informed us that that beautiful warehouse is being torn down. What is replacing it is a sports complex, but little is known about it. ... I overheard a conversation while eating at Carlucci's with my girlfriend that the sports complex would have soccer and basketball, but literally that is just heresay. ... Personally I am sad to see the warehouse go because I love it. I wish they could figure out a way to keep some of it, even if it is only the front facade and incorporate it into the design somehow. ... I am also excited to see what this sports complex really is. Downtown is in desperate need of some place to play basketball at.

I think the one she means is on 1st south (that's what's highlighted in the picture anyway.) That's the one just west of the middle of gateway. I've seen them working on it and I think it will probably be lofts or something but they haven't been working on it lately. The sports complex will be replacing a much more attractive building on 2nd south and it's a shame.

That is a great point you bring up. I'm from London myself and I remember as a kid I would ride the Tubs and rail with my mom (mum) everywhere we went. It's a great way to get around and you get to meet alot of people as well.
I'm really looking forward for the new West Jordan Trax line that will be going in just down the road from where I live. There will be a Trax stop next to City Hall and I plan on using Trax more once it's in place. Now I'm just waiting on that Airport line since that's where I work.

Also I have thought about getting a scooter. There's a guy at my work who drives around in one. He would drive it all year long. ( Even in the winter ). I'm sure it's nice in the warmer weather, but would suck in the winter. LOL.

"This is grand central for a public market or a really great transit-oriented development," Councilman Soren Simonsen fumed after viewing a rendering of UTA's project this week. "There's got to be a better thing we can do here."
So Mayor Ralph Becker and the City Council are hustling behind the scenes to prevent UTA from bulldozing the warehouse in less UTA parking garage than two weeks.

ugh, thats so stupid. I can see a reason for a parking garage (kinda) but really why tear down the building. They used half of it for the Hub, why not use the other half for that Bike Garage or retail, something. Its nice to see the Mayor Becker cares about the history of Salt Lake.

No, this is some other Warehouse, it like says John Deer or something on it. The one that going to be torn down is on 2nd south and its called the Central Warehouse.
