I think it's pretty sad. Cartoonish deco massing with flat mirrored glass, and balconies to boot? Was this found in a file drawer marked "Rejected Designs-1987?"

^ Yeah.

If they could just eliminate those 30-odd residential units, we could have had no balconies, which might allow the top to look a touch better.

The crown contains an energy producing wind farm.

^Indeed. For a split second it looked like JHC was suddenly morphed into a shorter, fatter version of itself. Thankfully, upon taking a second look this is not the case.

sorry for pulling this discussion back from last page, but

does anyone else find it disheartening that the only decently designed part of this entire development is going to be hidden from view from the street?

also for a parking garage, using brick seems like a nice solution

I think it just took them 20 years to find a rendering program that made the design look presentable (aka unrealistically unoffensive)

I'm going for a walk tomorrow, and I'm planning on starting at Cermak. Does anyone have any specific South Loop photo requests, since I'll be down that way?

There was a half-page article on Chicago's architecture in the local newspaper where I live in South Florida. It talked about the architectural tours, history, Chicago Spire, Trump, and Waterview. Had a picture of Trump under-construction too.
