I don't get it- from all these latest pictures and model shots, it looks like they are going back to the original geometric tiara design for the structural top under the spire, and abandoning the double ring of microwave dishes. If so, this is great news!
Does anyone have any info on this apparent change?

I'm just being perfectly honost, but I love the Freedom Tower and see it as a new, improved, up-to-date and modern version of the former WTC Tower 1... It will be something once this gets past street level! That daytime rendering is spactaculer! BTW, is the core technically at street level yet or if not, how many feet below is it yet? In this case I do find it weird that they are working on the core before the steel seeing that the last projects I've seen under construction including the BOA and 7WTC worked on the core behind the steel.

Neither new photos nor models.

This is as close to the current design as we've seen:

I totally agree with you. What the hell were guys thinking when they designed that spire ?

the only good thing about the spire is that it will be a few metres over the streetlevel so nobody is able to see it details. some time ago someone said it looks like a pregnant needle^^ i love this comparison.

Its a spire. People will hardly see it from some distance.

I'm talking about daytime. So yeah, no harm done by designing an ugly spire.

HAHA... good point. Never the less, projects like these are always judged on its complete picture so I think this will be a topic that will return; if everyone shares the same opinion that is . Maybe it looks better in real, who knows... Personally I also think they could have created something more fitting for the tower.
