Thanks Urbanboy. Despite our occasional disagreements I appreciate your support.

To clear the air, I commented on some comments that he had made in a Boise thread and he apparently didn't like it, the thread got closed. Thus the attack in here.

FUTURE MAYOR for MAYOR! 2019 (only if Becker isn't running again that year)

Future Mayor, I am with you on this one. The comments on the Boise thread that Ute Nation made were uncalled for. I am hoping that we can all get back on track for the reason that we are all here and that is to discuss development.

Future Mayor has my vote in 2019!
Anyways I did like the rendering of the Chase Tower. But since Chase is moving to the One Utah Tower then that rendering might be old.

It's really simple.. The mods of this forum requested no more city vs city comparisons. A few Boise folks continued on with their slander of SLC and Utah and it got shut down. Not because of what I said..

Some of you guys may not agree with what I say or said but I'm not going to let attacks on SLC go unnoticed, nor am I looking for your approval on what to say..

As far as being a "bad apple", it wasn't me that got shut down.

Bottom line. If you continue to take shots at SLC and Utah, you will be closed for business, just like the Boise Place thread..

that south jordan performing arts center looks absolutely amazing I must say.. although something like that in downtown salt lake would be absolutely stunning... I really wish the suburbs would pipe down and let the city be the city... sheesh

you will get shut down soon enough if you continue...because you're distracting from the purpose of this forum... granted there's two sides to every little argument and tiff..and they are bound to happen every once in a while... but you are crossing lines mate..you had a hand in getting the boiseplace thread closed.. but its closed for a couple days in order to send a message to everyone and YOU to cool it.. and you don't seem to be getting the point.. frankly you're really putting a bad taste in EVERYONES mouth...do yourself a favour and cool it....SLC and UTAh do not need YOU as their little warrior.. it can certainly hold its own without the likes of you.... besides.. you don't even live in salt lake city.. you live in sandy.... which means you're probably a bitter little republican shit head... grow up and learn to take a few things with a pinch of salt...

I've already discovered the boundries via the mods and I plan on following the rules.

Your word has no substance in the matter. Do yourself a favor and worry about your own actions.

Do we need to create a separate thread for you two to argue like babies in?
Because frankly I am sick of seeing crap like this drudged up in every Mtn. West thread.
Seriously, just shut the hell up. There seem to be a few of you who get a rise from stirring things up, but really, nobody but you is interested in this childish bickering.
I don't think I've seen utenation post a single constructive thing in any thread. Just a bunch of inflammitory crap.

My sister use to live up in Spokane, and when I saw this picture it totally reminded me of spokane.. I would bet the spokane and salt lake had similar histories in respects to the railroad and industry back in the early part of the century

hey you know what I'm willing to admit any of my faults in the back and forth banter... I think the biggest fault is to continue to acknowlege it THAT seems to be what is the driving force behind it... for my part in doing that.. i appologize.. a boise thread is closed because of all this.. I certainly do not want to see it happen to a salt lake thread... because its uneccesary...

I'm all for getting back on track and dropping the mess, but I will not stand for personal insults and attacks.

Here's to getting back on track..

I hate to say anything on this thread but I feel I need to mention that this forum is not what it used to be.

I have been reading posts and enjoying this forum for a long time until recently. It has been a great source of information and has been very exciting until now. Unortunately it seems like we've scared away some of the most valuable participants due to bickering and unwelcomed drama... I would love to see more posts by the likes of Viperlord and Comrade and a few others again. (Future mayor, Urban Boy). I hope I haven't left anyone out. I really appreciate the research and knowledge you guys contribute.

I would ask that everyone else continue to contribute as well but please leave your baggage at the door. If you somehow get your feelings hurt on this forum, please try to let it go and do not retaliate or try to defend yourself, it won't do any good. I would suggest that you find some cool RELATED news to post instead, that is the best way to make yourself look good anyway.

I'll continue to add where I can, but lets keep the excitement alive!

I have not posted in a while, mainly because I haven't read much that caught my attention. I have to admit that the design for the South Jordan Performing Arts Center was great. I do not want to argue about whether or not it should be located in the suburbs. I just want to comment on the eyecatching design. I like that it captures a new, modern, fresh approach without stepping to far from classic designwork. It would look great downtown, if we had a site that was large enough. The design, to me, looks to be rather wide. Just trying to help get this forum back on track.

The first thing I thought of UTPlanner was the dimensions of the Lincoln Center.

I wonder what a daytime rendering would look like. It appears that the entire building is clad is glass, this could look a bit wierd during the day, depending on the color and reflectivity.

To me, these look like cheap, faddish architecture. They are pretty forgettable and I don't think that they would age well. Similar to Angelina's Corner and the Kirkland condos. I am all for this type of infill, but the design isn't very timeless and will look dated in a few years.

There are several buildings like this around the valley:

This sort of faux-chateaux mansard roof style must have looked terrific when it was first built, but now you can look at them and pinpoint exactly what half of what decade they were all built in.
I think that in 10-15 years we'll look the same way at the "bright colors, sharp angles and stucco" designs that are so popular today.

Anything would be an improvement over the current building. I hate almost that whole block. The Hilton, Chase tower and American Towers condos are three of the ugliest buildings in Salt Lake and they are all right there to show you what Salt Lake had to offer in terms of architecture in the early 1980's:

They all sort of turn in on each other to form a useless concrete plaza in the center that is raised up a level from the sidewalk, making it completely inaccesible from the street. If I lived in American Towers, I wouldn't even know where my front door was.

I agree and was also very impressed by the beauty of this building. I could imagine how breathe-taking the grand foyer could be especially with that gorgeous chandelier. It gets my vote, preferably downtown though.

Here's a link to an article from the Enterprise originally written in 2005 about the possibility of a mixed use center and 3200 seat Performing Arts Hall in S. Jordan:

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa5279/is_200510/ai_n24306754

"With the tremendous amount of growth in the South Jordan area, with Daybreak and other developments, we believe it would be wellreceived."

Utah Arts Council director Margaret Hunt agreed that South Jordan would be a good location for a major performing arts center and would greatly enhance the surrounding communities.

"I think [Sandy/South Jordan] is the center of the valley from a demographic standpoint," said Hunt, who was appointed by Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. in January. "Arts and cultural infrastructure help shape the identity of the community. It gives a sense of pride, it provides a destination and it puts the name of a community at the forefront. Artists make communities vibrant, particularly when you have a creative core of people living and interacting within their community.

I'd say that since nothing has been mentioned about this, especially given the recent Sandy theater news, the project is dead, though it is a striking design.
