Granville Island to house $4m 'French Quarter' for 2010 games

B.C.'s francophone community plans to build and operate a $4-million "French Quarter" on Granville Island during the 2010 Winter Olympics.
The proposal, part of a $7-million plan to promote francophone culture around the Olympics, has received support from the Vancouver Organizing Committee, the federal government and the Senate committee on official languages.

We should reverse-Quebec them.

Okay lots of news today,

We're start with the latest UDP meeting,

Habour Green 3 was approved but only in a 6-3 vote, and it is in fact 32 storeys as orginaly stated. The UDP loved the tower but isn't so fond of the way it ties in with the other 2 towers, they would also prefer a shared landing between them and HG2.

1098 Richards Street which is "An 18 storey tower and 8 storey residential building on this site. Two heritage houses will be relocated and restored onto the corner at Helmcken & Richards Streets."
was approved 7-0

And 1237 Howe Street which is "a 12-storey multiple dwelling (Social and Supportive Housing Project) with one level of parking."
was also approved 6-3

New onto the DPB are a few projects.

505 Abbott Street "Construction of nine storey residential building including 108 units, amenity areas and 6,000 sq. ft. of retail space over a partial basement with parking and loading at grade."

Is this the social housing project for the old Henderson presentation site?

1102 Hornby Street "To develop this site with a six storey multiple dwelling (containing a total of 21 units) over two levels of underground parking having vehicular access from the lane."

161 West Georgia Street "To develop this site with a 23-storey residential building containing 233 dwelling units, with townhouses at grade, over five levels of underground parking."

Have to admit this one caught me off guard.

299 East 7th Avenue "Development with a 7-storey mixed-use (artist live/work and residential) project, containing 171 Class A Artist Live Work units and 59 Residential units, all over two levels of underground parking for 258 vehicles, including the retention and restoration of the facade of the Heritage C building on this site.

This one was on previously listed and has been relisted, can't notice any changes to it though.

This is in the region just East of Main Street where there are a number of artist lofts, built in the late 90's. I believe there was a city moratorium on building any more artist lofts in that region. So what's changed to allow this project to proceed?

holy mackerel, i assume this is the concord-donated social housing site that the city took an in lieu payment on. google maps tells me that it's the rumoured vag lot, but that just can't be right. and not sure why they'd put townhouses there... ground level retail folks, let's go!

The West georiga site is the so called 5th Spectrum tower that was to be a social housing building.
The 7th ave building should be the one Amacon is trying to work out a deal to get the Main and Prior one to go ahead, but I'm not sure on this, maybe someone else has some insight.

Interesting re the 5th spectrum tower, I had no idea that was coming. I always thought the city/VGH owned the entire parking lot site. To be honest I am not too excited for that tower... i was hoping that VGH would get the entire square block.

It's not on the parking lot site. It's on the parkette site that commemorated the original Georgia Street Viaduct - on the Armoury side of Beatty @ Georgia.

I think there is some confusion here, the building with 5 levels of u/g parking is not social housing, it is the site that had been scheduled to be social housing but Concord bought the rights back fromt he city because they were not proceeding with it. It is now going to be market housing.
The site is also not the parking lot that will house VAG one day down the road, it is on the same site as the Specturm towers, this will be on the NE corner of Beatty and Georgia. Hope that helps.

I've seen the 5th spectrum tower advertised on concord's website since their relaunch. Even though they dub it "luxury" condos, with 10 units/floor (233 units on 23 stories), I think it will be in the same vein as spectrum.

wow thats a LOT of units for COncord....must be like Spectrum then and NOT high end.

Yeah, that's 10 units per floor on average??? Wow. Mind you, I woun't expect that to be a "luxury" site anyways.

BTW - there's a new parkette between this site and the Armoury - so that may compensate for the loss of this parkette.

Got an e-mail with floorplans for 999 Seymour. The balconies/solariums look nice with the sliding doors - both sets - the exterior screens and the interior doors all seems to slide away to open up the space.

I'm surprised at how EXPENSIVE some are, especially considering the size of them... $400,000 for less than 500 sq. ft?! Not including parking, either, then they start at $470,000

MetroLiving (TownLine Homes) has high end finishes and has charged a lot in their smaller boutique buildings. It'll be interestng to see how this project sells.
