Graham Construction was hard at it today and looks like the clean up is pretty much done on the old Ok Economy / parking lot site. Sounds like the cement will be done by Sept and the steel by Oct.

I was looking to find Stewie and macca peaking out of their office windows but no luck.

Its really great to feel the energy our boom is creating.

I'll be peeking out my window all summer too.. just started a job in a second floor office downtown. But unfortunately there's really no action to be seen from my window!

You're right it does feel exciting downtown. There is most definitely a growing vibe.

How exciting to see all of this development in the downtown! I passed by the encana foundation in downtown Calgary today and it made me think of Cameco. It just reminded me that the chances of Cameco coming out with a disappointing to mediocre building is VERY slim! This company is one of the most successful companies in Canada and to build a dissapointing office is highly unlikely. It will most likely be the crowning jewel for the company and for the city.

i wouldn't call this a lot of construction yet, wait till fall when numerous projects will be on their way with a significant change, anyways for the height vrs beauty thing going on i believe saskatoon needs a nice mixture of both. remember big buildings may standout far away but when in the downtown you will look at the beautiful building next to it. all i say is be careful for what you wish for because height is not always good

Good point, when I walk around tall buildings you def aren't looking at them, you're looking at the buildings which are about 5 stories max or within your view. I guess to compromise the situation a building with a stunning facade and lower level could be constructed which then fades into a more simplistic modern highrise.

I'd venture a guess that they could be building some condo's, seems to be the theme around that area...

Which brings me to another two points... I think it was mentioned earlier... I'd like to see the 25th St extension completed, I couldn't believe that was not in the construction plans for the city. Second, I think that area could use some park space. With the flower mill, railroad tracks, and downtown industry, it makes the area feel a little drab, park space would improve the street scape around 24th & 25th St., and should be in the plans.

Another thing, as far as the Cameco rumour goes... I'd say we are going to see office tower development, it will not matter how tall it is...

Other companies soon to be looking for office space possibly downtown:
Goldsource Mines
Shore Gold
Potash Corp. Of Saskatchewan
Areva Resources
UEX Corp
Federated Co-op
Canpotex
Mega Group Inc.

add to list

Zu.com bought the A&B sound building and will be moving their offices there after they have completed renovations.

It was very disappointing to see that the 25th street extension wasn't going to be completed this year but I have a feeling it's because the city is focusing on the south downtown development rather then the warehouse district. Maybe within a few years they will do that along with the bus mall relocation. Parks in that area would be a great idea. It would liven up the north downtown as well it would help anchor it as the north part of downtown. It would be beautiful if they built a conservatory of some kind which is larger and more impressive then the mendal art galleries. SO to encourage these developments in the warehouse district we should mail the city, maybe they will see a demand for it and do something about it next year

Saskatoon Health Region, the Ministry of Health and special guests today officially kicked off construction of the new $20-million Irene and Leslie Dubé Centre for Mental Health, which will improve mental health services in the region and the province.

"I am thrilled that this centre will be built overlooking the South Saskatchewan River," Health Minister Don McMorris said. "This peaceful location, plus the improvements to treatment spaces and the addition of a separate area for young people, will create an ideal healing environment for those in our society who are the most vulnerable."

"This new facility and the opportunity it brings to develop client-centred, community-based recovery treatment programs shows that people living with mental health are valued within our community and they and their families deserve the same dignity and respect that would be afforded to any other person accessing health services," Schizophrenia Society Saskatoon Chapter president Jake Ens said.

"Today is an example of strong partnerships and the generosity of so many wonderful people," Saskatoon Regional Health Authority chair Darlene Eberle said. "We are so grateful to our physicians and staff for their commitment to client-centred care, the clients and their families for their ongoing feedback, the Ministry of Health and Foundations for helping secure funding, the University of Saskatchewan for leasing the land and, of course, Irene and Leslie Dubé and all the other donors."

The Ministry of Health is paying 65 per cent of construction and design costs. The Royal University and Saskatoon City Hospital Foundations are co-sponsoring The Future in Mind campaign, which continues to raise money for the new facility. The foundations have been instrumental in securing 35 per cent of construction costs and 100 per cent of the cost of furnishings and equipment.

The two inpatient units at Saskatoon City Hospital and Royal University Hospital will be amalgamated and housed within the new Dubé Centre. The new facility will accommodate two adult units totalling 54 beds and a separate 10-bed child/adolescent unit.

Saskatoon Health Region awarded the tender to Quorex Construction. The facility is scheduled to be operational by late 2009.

25th Street

I know someone who works for the city. From what I've been told, no major roadway projects will be worked on until the south Circle Drive bridge is built. The city has so much as said that they've put all their eggs in one basket, so their efforts to complete that project will come at the expense of all others.

Just curious about the Cameco 'tower(s)' that are being discussed. The additional building that is being constructed next to Cameco's current head office is only at the steel framing stage, so how can anyone expect Cameco to build anything in the near future when they are still building an expansion at their current site? I guess a tower may take years to complete, so they need to resolve their current space shortage, but I just wonder if they invest that much where they are now, will they re-locate??

Did this person by chance tell you when they expect the circle drive bridge to be completed?
