I'm thinking it is Infinity tower 4 or possibly one of the two SkyTowers across the street.

I saw the model wrapped up in plastic today and it looks exactly like the BC Electric building.

*l* maybe BC hydro is finally getting around to building the second tower, that was the plan at the time to complete the logo.

I have been wondering about their site at Edmonds Station. Its such a key site in that area and a large one at that. And it just sites there empty.

^A few years ago there used to be a model in the lobby of the Hydro building of all the towers that would eventually be built in the area. It included the 7 City in the Park towers as well as Park 360. It also showed the location of what must be Essence, which is proposed. The only buildings now that can't be accounted for are the two that it showed in front of Hydro and the one across the street in the empty lot next to the Edmonds station parking.

If you visit translinks site under Projects / Urban Showcase / Transit Village / Edmonds station, they show a plan to redevelop a huge chuck of that empty land, not sure if it's owned by Translink or not.

Thanks. I just checked out the Translink website. It looks as though they want to develop over top of the bus loop. Now that I think about it I remember the model showing that the bus loop would definitely be encased. This must be to decrease the noise pollution that would otherwise be too great for any new residential development.

Mystery model update

Well sure enough the missing facade has been added and the building has been wrapped up for shipping in plastic. I couldn't see anything useful nor did I have the opportunity to ask anyone what the project was. So for now this is it.

It would be nice to find out what it is part of.

It would surprise me a bit if it was part of the Infinity Project though it does have a striking similarity to the previously proposed Infinity 5 tower which is going through some redesign from my understanding. They still have the model if you go to the sales centre (which is now functioning as the selling point for Sky Towers) and to be honest, the top portion when I first saw it reminded me of Infinity 1. I1 looks just like that at the top and towers 2 and 3 will look similar though the top part will be rounded.

*shrug* who knows. B+B makes models world wide so it could be for anywhere. If you get a chance to ask someone, please do! :-)

It does look like an office tower though but again Infinity 1 kind of does too.

Thanks for the pics.

Raffles has definitely turned out well.

Too bad about the GM Place Tower - but I agree that it's in the middle of nowhere - even if it is close to Stadium Station. Now if Concord hadn't swapped the Spectrum and Cambie Bridgehead sites' land use, there could have been an office node at the Spectrum site (mind you it would take longer to build out).

Definitely looks like 999 Seymour. Definitely a boring-looking tower.

Mystery model solved (it's for Seattle)

The office building featured in the model is slated to be built in Seattle. I asked the head of the model shop today and that's what he told me.

Makes sense. Vancouver doesn't build office towers anymore.

Speaking of which, there was talk from people at Bentall during the Real Estate forum yesterday to suggest that their tower at 745 Thurlow isn’t likely to proceed anytime soon…

The 745 Thurlow tower is still on track, it's owned by a pension fund. I think the majority of all future office towers will be Pension fund owned, safer then rental apartments. They require a solid, safe return to pay out, divendends from stock holding just don't cut it anymore and interest rates are too low.

Yeah, but even BCimc isn't interested in paying close to $500 psf for a tower with no tenants. More than likely they've advised Bentall to sit on it for a while...I'd be surprised to see them move forward with a DP.

In the meantime, another Bentall building may be primed for redevelopment...

As mentioned in the new VAG thread, The Sun had a blurb about Edgewater Casino possibly moving to the Smithe street side of BC Place and building a large River Rock-style casino/resort. That would likely get the owners to forego their lease (until 2013) since the current building is small and has all sorts of parking problems, but I can see the protests already.

Anyone know anything else about this?
