thanks for all of those who answered my question!!!! i guess it TOO EARLY to actually say something about the building,, maybe it will look very different once its done!!! but right now, im worried about The Waterview tower??? THANKS everyone

A few months ago, a couple of posters here were inquiring about the New Lakeshore East Sales Center located in the retail level of The Regatta.

Yah, it is also a building and not actually water. That may help explain some criticisms.

Also, waves are white when they crest and hit the shore. Hence the name of a large wave, "WHITECAP". I don't understand the argument against white balconies. They will age just fine and be maintained well. Chicago isn't Detroit afterall.

For taking such a bold architectural leap, I say this building nears highrise development perfection.

Balcony railings were being installed today on the southwest corner about dozen floors up. Looked good from what I saw, but unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me.

I drove by Aqua on the way to work this morning to check out those railings for myself.

I know its early in the process, but I felt a little disappointed about it....I feel like the railings could have been used to add to the body of the waves, like some were suggesting earlier, however, the fact that they are black causes them to pretty much blend into the dark windows....

I think it would have looked great if they were a brushed nickel instead of black.....I dont know, maybe I am wrong on this and that its just too early to tell. Hopefully things will look better once more are installed.

Agreed on Jibba's last two shots. We've got enough floors now that the ebb and flow of the waves is becoming apparent. You need to get a couple wavelengths in to get the feel for it.

And 75 more floors of that?

There are a few criticisms that I have heard that are of the general form, "Looks cool up close but boring from far away." To me, that is what is so intriguing about this building. From afar it will (likely) have the appearance of a "box" (and a tall, well-proportioned one at that), but it will still retain just enough expression of the balcony silhouette to pique one's interest, raising just enough curiosity to warrant a closer look. Then, as one gets closer still, the effect becomes even more apparent, engaging the viewer even further. Once one is closest to the structure viewing it from below, with the "waves" reaching their most pronounced expression, it will command attention. Someone here previously mentioned this phenomenon in a similar fashion (honte, alliance, perhaps someone else) and referred to it as "bean architecture" or something of that sort. I think this is a very apt description for how this is going to actively engage the viewer. Bottom line: pretty f'in cool.
