Yeah, lunchtime is pretty good, that's actually a really good place to eat lunch on a nice day. I don't think it needs an overhaul, it just needs more amenities to draw people to the area. Stephen Ave is good, but that only addresses the south side. I also think it should integrate better with the city hall side, but that's kinda hard with McLeod trail running through it.

They also need to remove at least half the trees on the 7th Ave side, as they form an impenetrable barrier.

Having the subway run past there could offer an opportunity in the form of a subway entrance/pavilion. Just like at Dundas Square.

That renovation better be mint. This building is arguably one of the best examples of international style architecture in Canada.

A shot of Calgary's City Hall at night, 2004, taken by me:

Strangely I've taken very few of Calgary's City Hall though it is one of the city's nicest heritage buildings, complete with Municipal, Provincial and Federal heritage designation, the only such building in Calgary to have all three heritage designations.

Here's a few old pictures of it, the first one taken during its construction which ran into huge cost overruns. It was worth it though!!
1909:

And in 1912:

This photo, from 1991, shows both old city hall and the massive municipal building, which I also don't have many pics of my own:

The above three photos are from the Glenbow archives website:

And here's some more of Vancouver City Hall, because, well, I used to live there after all.
All taken by me:

Current Ottawa City Hall:

I much prefer the old one. It's not as centrally located, but the buildings are sick IMO. The whole complex is now owned by the Feds.

calagry's city hall looks like a beached whale with a barnacle on it.....it should be pushed back into the ocean when the tide comes back in.....fugly.

edmonton's city hall is pomo crap....it was dated the second it was built.

winnipeg's city hall is a crime against humanity for what it replaced.

Both Guelph and Galt (now Cambridge) are getting new additions that look pretty good. Worth posting the pics if anyone has them. Otherwise, Wesmount looks unreal!
