There was no award to Prichard of any type grant. Prichard has an annual budget of just 12 million dollars and there is no room to come up with discretionary money for such a project.

I think this guy thinks we are flush with cash down here. We worked hard to bring in big business and prosperity for our citizens and then suddenly our poor relatives up north are at our door asking for money. They broke it...let them fix it.

See that midwestrabbi guy from B-ham talking trash about Mobile in the B-ham forum from my understanding of this link you posted Just as Cotten City 251 said it will effect the whole state. Ths midwestrabbi guy just went crazy on the computer saying Mobile is trash to B-ham and all that other stuff that is crazy .Since B-ham`s economy produce more GP than all three large metros combined which is true well why are they in debt and why didn`t the leaders show up for the meeting according to the link that`s stupid. The link says Jeff Co. needs help from other parts of the state as well. It just pissed me off when that dude was putting my city down man. Not to bring up the past but when the RSA Tower thread was in it`s hay day thats how I found this site I wanted to comment on that thread against all the haters that was on it. I couldn`t at the time and i`m glad because i`m older and much more mature now and know how to handle stupidity. I will defend Mobile no matter what !

Well here I am, and the first thing is I ask you guys in Mobile to forgive me. My feelings toward the tanker deal have nothing to do with you city, my opinion is toward the leadership in Washington and McCain. I have spent some great times in and around Mobile and my wife has a brother who lives in your city. I am very impressed with YOUR downtown area , and spent a week at the Adams Mark several years ago. I have always thought that the eastern shore should be included in the Metro population of Mobile truly pushing the population over 750,000. Again my opinion is based on what I read and hear on the news and I have a friend that I am a g-dfather to his son that works at Boeing. It is ashamed that Mobile is in the middle of this hassle. So understand that it is alright to "eat some crow " as I have.

I agree that green is ugly I prefer a light blue also and I hope they will illuminate the bridge at night just like teh Africatown bridge but with other colors.

First of all, thank you for venturing over here.

I think it behooves you to read up more on this tanker deal and not stick with the rubbish you are probably reading on the AP wire. Past Air Force generals are supporting this, and if it wasn't for the smear campaign Boeing is running, I think the majority of Americans would be for that project. I will go ahead and say that I think the project will still go to EADS but Boeing will fight and claw, bitch and moan all it wants.

Now...

Mobile truly is a city with perpetual potential... long forgotten in the 70's-80's and a city that is clearly emerging to be a world power. The growth your seeing along the central Gulf Coast has been spurred by Katrina rebuilding, and private and public investment. This growth (fortunately for the Port City) has focused on Mobile. The whole state will benefit from this just as Mobile benefited from Birmingham's success in the 20th century.

It is great that we live in a democracy, where we can read, study and think for ourselves. I agree that Mobile is a great city, one that has been ignored for years. And with that NEW RSA tower , and the Cruise Terminal who knows the possibilities, and with that alone many are truly taking note of Mobile. And then we read about the new steel mill that is being built , you should be proud. But my opinion about the tanker deal are well read, and just my opinion, it would have been best if the Washington would have left the Air Force alone in this decision. This is the second decision that was made concerning this issue, some in congress got involved, again I say it is ashamed that Mobile is in the middle. But whatever they do I am more concerned with this war that we have become involved with, and how many more will come back dead before we bring our troops home. One more thing I do not live in Bham, I had a business their for several years and have since retired and now live in Denver.

The Mobile City Council refused this morning by a 5-2 vote to release federal money to build a transportation hub in Prichard, with members saying they wouldn't vote for the shelter, which isn't supposed to cost Mobile anything, until the Wave Transit System's other budget problems were cleared up.

Then, moments after the vote to table to item, Councilman Clinton Johnson, one of the two members who supported the money, said state Sen. Vivian Davis Figures, D-Mobile, was seeking $100,000 from the Alabama Department of Community and Economic Affairs to help Prichard share in the Wave's costs.

Prichard's failure to contribute to the costs of operating the bus system has long irritated some members of the Mobile City Council.

Napoleon Bracey, a Prichard City Councilman who attended Tuesday's meeting, said he wished Johnson had been able to announce the extra money before the vote, and said it was unfair that Mobile was sitting on money that the Federal Transit Administration gave for the benefit of Prichard, just because council members are unhappy about the Wave's deficit.

"Don't sit and hold our project up because of another issue that's totally separate," Bracey said.

I sat down last night and began to think about this. California & Alabama, have something in common. We both have at least 4 major cities, of course our population and land mass is smaller. Mobile is a bay city, and so is San Francisco. Eastern shore is a lot like Easter shore in San Fran. We both have a number to represent our counties on our licenses plates. Mobile wants a new "Golden Gate Bridge." California has mountains so do we (Alabama). I could keep going for a while, but I thought it to be interesting. Just wanted to through this in there.

Mobile has the 10th largest Port in the country and thats before the completion of the 300 million dollar expansion. I wonder will we be featured on The National Geographic Channel America`s Port Series .I hope so !

I suppose I should be thankful you are at least a sarcastic "friend". I guess my supervisor friends at the WAVE didn't get the story right. Again, the money was not Prichard's but fed money belonging to Mobile. The only part of Mr. Bracey's comments that were correct was that Mobile council members were unhappy and not so much with WAVE as Prichard itself; lets be real here, if the money was given by FTA for the benefit of Prichard there would have been more complaining by Prichard officials. It is a given that WAVE needs more money than it gets but the new management is trying to better spend what they do have. With all do respect to the MPR, they got about half the facts correct. The proposed station location was right beside the city library on Lovejoy in what is now a parking lot; it is a good idea that should happen.

The cover story is on the Crescent Theater rennovation. It will have a movie theater for films that don't come to Mobile in the regular theater (aka most Oscar nominees, documentaries, etc). The other side will feature more of a small auditorium for music, spoken word, stuff like that. Also cool is the fact that they have a liquor license, so you can have drinks while your there for a show/movie. It will feature very high end condos above. I hope this works because that would be a very cool thing to have in Mobile, especially downtown.

We've been eagerly awaiting the opening of this theater and plan to make a concerted effort to support it---unfortunately that will mean going downtown to see movies on nights when we would normally have been potatoed out on the couch with a DVD
