i didn't even notice the extra storey. i think it blends in with Woodwards. i went by the Flack building the other day. i rather like the reno but my only complaint is that the paint on the stone is a little glossy. it looks very "painted".

Someone has to take a pic of Woodwards from Cambie & Georgia or Cambie & Dunsmuir - the thing is massive!

are you referring to the abbott tower as in one that is part of woodwards? if so, just go and check the dp amendment drawings at city hall, unless it hasn't been submitted yet. if it hasnt been, that w/e who cares, 2 extra floors whop de do.

Had high hopes for Espana after Firenze turned out so well. I'm a little let down. It'll still be good for the area though.

I reside in Gastown and I always shy-ed from posting photos with my little Olympus digital, but I guess they turned out quiet nice.
yes leftside U live quite close by.
I bet U that the GARAGE will still be under construction by the time Woodwards opens for business, They started to built the Terminus almost 3 years ago and still not finished, its by the same developer.
Salty and Irish pub will be merged into one huge happy venue and for once I can't hardly wait, the owner are truly the nicest people I have met since I moved here six years ago.
I was also told today that the seismic upgrade are a different part of the Gastown development and as for the rumour of the edifice having a additional floor added, I was told it was scrapped unless someone can be verify this info I was assure they will resurface and restore the building as part of historic Gastown, hopefully ending construction before the Infamous Greenbelt comes NORTH as once planned.
So all U people who are so scared of coming to DTES I can assure YOU its all very safe and quite happening and that is just the beginning.
NOTE: I was chatting with the owner of the Save on meat and he told me that there is a HUGE tower soon to be sprucing up at Carrall and Hasting can anyone check this information and if its a go any plans in the works to show?
thanks
cheer

The extra floor was part of an old DP, but the idea was scrapped as the government wants to have as much natural light on Gastown Square as possible, and wants to keep the 2/3 storey limit to prevent shadowing. Look how busy Chill Winston's is on a sunny day...

The building at Carrall and Hastings is an old rumour that has been mentioned on here a few times. I'd love to see it happen. Keep the heart of Gastown lowrise (including the square), but increase height elsewhere would be ok with me.

I notice the DP sign on Carrall at the building currently occupied by Boneta has been taken down (it is still up on Cordova). Is this because development work is about to commence or that the development permit has been scrapped?

Jacques,

Thank for the pics, the building the Save-on meats guy is most likely talking about is a planned 40 storey tower by MacDonald realty, they have Jim Green working on their side but to be honest it will be a tough sell. We will know more about it by the end of this year.

Hopefully Save-on meats stays, they have the business and building for sale for 3.2Million trying to cash in on these prices. I can't blame them, if they go they will be missed. Ideally I'd love for them to sell the building and keep the retail component for themselves. Sign should stay too.
