Davis commissioners back light rail - It's considered preferred alternative for transport

The locally preferred alternative, whose report can be found at www.udot.utah.gov/southdavistransit, includes light rail — possibly in the form of a streetcar — to run from the Intermodal Hub, located at 200 South and 600 West in Salt Lake City, north on 400 West, continuing north on Beck Street and U.S. Highway 89 to 2600 South in Woods Cross.

From there, the rail would extend along 200 West to 400 North, where it would head east to Main Street in Centerville and run to somewhere near Parrish Lane.

Bus rapid transit now being projected for 5600 West

Bus rapid transit on 5600 West now is part of the Wasatch Front Regional Council's transportation plan.
On Thursday, the council approved adding mass transit along 5600 West from Salt Lake City International Airport on the north to 11800 South on the south.
The first phase of the project would be to develop dedicated bus lanes from 2700 South to 6200 South by 2015.
In the next 10 years, those lanes would be extended to 11800 South through South Jordan's Daybreak community. On the northern end, the lanes would go up to Interstate 80 and then swing east to the airport.
Between 2026 and 2030, the bus-rapid-transit corridor would be replaced by a rail system.
The project now shifts to the Utah Transit Authority, which must conduct studies to determine where any street widening would need to occur and other issues facing a transit system on 5600 West.

With the price of gas continuing to climb there will be Huge interest in this area around the Mid-Jordan trax line. Mixed use TOD is how cities and surrounding suburbs are going to develop in the next 10-20 years.

I predict the West Jordan line will nearly double TRAX ridership.

Also dose anyone know when the 3500s. BRT line opens up, and will it have it's own lane or will it travel in mixed traffic at that point?

Last I read was that BRT phase one opens this winter. It will be shared lane with traffic. Phase 2 will start in January and it will be a dedicated lane.

Dedicated lanes, with the bus driver also having the ability to control the stop lights totally kicks booty!! It works fantastic in L.A. Will this BRT give their drivers that ability?

Again, I ask the question: WHERE? There's no room for a dedicated lane - unless they delete one lane in each direction, in which case I (and half of West Valley) will go postal.

Says 2300 riders but with new development at Market Station and at Sugar House by the time this trolley is finished it could me more like 3000+. At the same time we all know how they predicted ridership on Trax and we now know those predictions where way short.

Mayor Becker seems to be doing some really good things for SLC now that he is in office and I like the projects that he has been pushing. Unlike a mayor to the south that is only looking at developments and not worrying about how people will get to those developments. Mayor Becker seems to know to put in the transit, than the developments and people will come.

^^^I do agree with this.

I love the amount of transit that has been voted on, worked on and will be coming in the next few years.

It will be great to see what the system looks like when the current lines are up and running and what new projects are being built/wanted by the public.

Becker is a Planning Instructor at the U, he knows that TOD will attract new developments, in terms of Residential, Retail, etc., that hopefully will lead to 'walkability' and get people out of their polluting cars. I support the S H Trolley, just wish it didn't have to go down the old abandoned rail ROW, I don't think it's going to be a trip to brag about the scenery, much like the Sandy Line from 13th South to Murray, yucko.

As excited as I am for Front Runner, TRAX to West Jordan, and the Sugarhouse Trolley...

Anyone know what the status of the Airport TRAX line is? I haven't heard anything about that in some time. You would think that would take priority over some of these other transit dreams...

As far as I know Jedi the airport TRAX timeline hasn't deviated any. This Sugarhouse line is simply something that is now being pushed as a project for which the Mayor wants to establish definative funding and construction goals. It isn't going to take any kind of priority over those lines already scheduled.
