When I drove by last night, I could see that the steel framing is up on at least two buildings in the Heritage Greene development.

That's not the same development, Hammergirl.

The one that was supposed to be mix-use (which is apparently JUST big box now) is on the N/W corner of Paramount/Winterberry. The frames you saw are going up at Stonechurch/Upper Mount Albion.

Looking at the map on this website, I thought they were all the same development.

what a brilliant site plan. I love the 'special characteristics' = Opening 2008.
Yep, that's about all that is special about this thing.

Looks like a pile of shite. This is an example of land use planning at its absolute lowest. This is a potential site for shovel ready employment land. I guess the city is still into defecating away its future.

Just one more point, that proposal is the largest steaming pile of raunchy shit I have ever seen. I can't believe the expressway was constructed to subsidize absolute garbage like that. Pull your head out of your asses already.

Yes, virtually ALL of Hamilton's commie blocks are from Effort Trust.

Holy shit! I thought it was just the east side of Upp Mt Albion that was being devleopped. I never venture west of there, never really have. There's no sidewalks and cars fly by (well used to b4 the 4-way stops & lights).

What a piece of crap! The citizens up there fought for, and were PROMISED residential in this development. How did the developpers get away w/ this!?
I'm from up here and am disgusted!
I hope the kids at Laura Secord School don't plan on playing around their school anymore... heaven forbid they cross the street when someone is jonesin for Tim's and takes them out!

Yeah, I live in one and work in another one. At least the one I live in is better run than the one I work in.

Well not exactly, ET was in the lend to own business and got most of . They built a huge RE portfolio by calling mortgages they knew owners could never pay.

This site is where Hamilton should be paying millions to locate a major industrial tenant. The big boxes are completely the wrong land use there. I am infuriated by this development.

I wish I'd have brought a tape recorder the day I chatted with LD at a public meeting and he raised his finger in the air and empahtically said "THERE WILL BE NO SPRAWL ATOP RED HILL. IT IS PURELY FOR INDUSTRIAL COMPANIES AND GOOD JOBS!!"

I didn't believe it then, and I don't believe it now....anyone who did believe these guys is a complete idiot.

This is how 'land development' happens in Hamilton (anyone who replies "it happens in other cities too" boo hoo) is still secondary to the real argument.

THat is... we've been fcked. We are paying for a road/highway in the form of tax dollars to subsidize customers to this kind of sprawl shit. This sprawl in no way pays for the infrustructure costs borne from the city residents. Most who will never patronize whatever business locates in this piece of crap building. eff mee and you because that's what Larry DiIanni did.

I beg to differ on the point that the existence of this type of development is secondary to the "real argument"--because everything I consistently read on this forum suggests otherwise--in fact, the premise of most of this Forum and this thread is that Hamilton is somehow unique in allowing this type of development to occur and is uniquely backward thinking. If you choose to argue that these types of development are negative--I see nothing wrong with you making that argument and having it stand on it's own merit. Trying to paint a picture of Larry Di Ianni stirring a boiling cauldron somewhere merely makes your argument a personal one--and one which the facts do not bear out. I live elsewhere as you know--and I hear all the same arguments that ONLY IN WINDSOR would these types of developments be allowed to happen. Frankly, it is an endless, disjointed refrain. While I generally disagree with many of the prevailing opinions here--I think it's only fair of me to point out that there are like-minded people in other cities who share your viewpoints and also believe their locales are unique in allowing "sprawl" to destroy everything from the nuclear family to downtown retail. Frankly, if all of you got together you might make a more effective movement--nonetheless you would have to deal with the deflation of what I see as the basis for this Forum--that somehow Hamilton is living a different reality than the rest of North America.

I'm in my 30s--and Heritage Greene has been on the drawing board as a retail area since I was playing pee-wee hockey, so this development is no sudden flash.

It's true Hamilton's sprawl is no worse than London or Windsor. Actually Hamilton is far more compact than those cities. That said, I took a drive out to the Heritage Green area yesterday and the construction there is unreal. Same with Waterdown. It's really a continuation of the same stuff that completely surrounds Toronto. I'd like to see a different type of development, but to most people, they would see this and think Hamilton is booming. This continues to be the dominant style of development almost everywhere (except Portland, Oregon).
