For those put off by the initial renderings of the condo tower, hotel projects have fewer parking requirements, verdad?

Hotel planned above proposed museum in Greektown
By Alby Gallun

(Crain’s) — Chicago condominium developer David Wallach plans to build a 220-room hotel atop the Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center proposed at the south end of Greektown.

Mr. Wallach originally had planned a 142-unit condo tower on the site at 333 S. Halsted St., but changed his mind after being approached last year by Dolce International, a hotel operator that was seeking a new location in Chicago. The weak condo market also was a factor in his decision to trim the number of condos in the high-rise down to about 40.

So many great updates. Thanks everyone. The glass on The Clare reminds me a lot of the glass on Echelon (Allure).

Sweet, this site is perfect for a hotel. Close to transit, UIC and is an activity generator. Plus, no new NIMBYs in West Loop Gate. I wonder if WLCO will try to block it, as 33 stories would 3 times their "height limit".

It's east of Halsted, isn't it? And with Skybridge as a precedent, I don't think WLCO would have much of a leg to stand on.

"Just started," my ass. It's been that way for almost 3 months now. This has to be one of the slowest moving steel frames I've ever seen.

I'm surprised WLCO hasn't yet sunk to the depth of the Houston "neighbors association" protesting a high-rise in the desirable area near Rice:

That's exactly what a high-rise will do to the perfectly quaint and bucolic West Loop, long known for its......for its......eh, whatever, I guess there's got to be something those WLCO people are trying to preserve about their neighborhood by disallowing high-rises, right?

^ Considering that this project may be the only way to get the belated Hellenic Museum built, along with the fact that it's located on the east side of Halsted, even I would be surprised if WLCO had any issues with this (but then, the gall of these damn NIMBY groups never fails to surprise me..)

After this, I don't think anything will surprise you...

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/cgi-bin/news.pl?id=28734

The planned high-rise at 333 S. Halsted St., which would be 334 feet tall, “is not remotely in the ballpark” of acceptable heights, says Eric Sedler, president of the influential West Loop Community Organization. A 20-story building “would seem to be in the right range.”

This proposed building is located approximately 1000m from the tallest building in the U.S.

Not to mention less than 500 meters due south from a 421 ft high tower (Skybridge).

WLCO is apparently led by a pompous, self-important, communist ass.

For those who care, WLCO is meeting tonight at Jak's Tap from 6pm - 8pm. Non-members are supposed to be charged $15 and supposed to have RSVP'd ...
