We gotta find a way to get this guy to build in Chicago proper.

I don't have his book, but I had the honor of having him as a professor for a semester. I got a chance to go visit some of his projects out in Phoenix. They were the shit.

South Loop site lands a buyer
By: Alby Gallun March 24, 2008

A little-known local condominium developer has paid about $40 million for a riverside property in Chicago's South Loop, a tract that has tantalized developers but has sat fallow for 37 years.

Skokie-based Russland Capital Group says it recently bought a 6.5-acre parcel in the site known as Franklin Point from Florida-based railroad CSX Corp. Russland is the third builder in four years to take a crack at the property, a mostly empty grassy expanse beginning four blocks south of the Sears Tower and extending to Polk Street.

Here's hoping they get better architects than they did for the "Michigan Avenue Towers".

^ Seconded (loudly).

Maybe they'll "pull a Kelleher" and save a potentially great piece of design from the trashcan by hiring Adrian Smith to revive his plans? Who knows, it might be cheaper than starting over. Smith is pretty good at marketing himself; I wouldn't be surprised to see them reach out to the developer with their proposal.

Regarding Franklin Point: Russland, though small has a good reputation. I know a few people who bought into Michigan Avenue Tower and liked the developer enough to trade-up to Tower II.

Streeter II (son of Streeter?) construction site, 23 March:

BTW, the Streeter I has turned out very well IMHO, at least from the outside. I'm especially taken with the garage, which is clad in a pleasant blue/green glass

Nice touches on the crown as well, especially the glass topper:

I find the blue/green skin refreshing - a patch of color on the skyline:

Note how the drawn shades accentuate the green color of the glass.

Slightly metallic-looking garage shades

Nicely articulated corner

Just once, I wish someone would give Jahn the money to actually install curved glass. These curves made up of short segments have annoyed me ever since the Board of Trade Addition. On Citigroup Center, he did a little trick with curved projecting mullions that made it a little better.

550 St Clair, 23 March.

Glass on the condo portion of the tower looks great.....

.....untill you look down at the parking podium. Yikes! Metal-mesh screen or no, this podium is brutal:

Could've been a beaut of a tower - too darn bad these windowless, glassless, inhumanely-scaled podia are taking over the town.

Fairbanks at Cityfront Plaza, 23 March. These would be apartments/condos fronting the garage, Vancouver style?

Somewhat more plebeian on the East face
