I'm not an engineer either but I assume it is the corner of the building where the corner overhangs but they don't want a support beam there. They did something simular when pouring the concrete supports at Meurelo. Just guessing though.

I think I see what you are asking. You're looking at a diagram here on SSP with the building name: South Village - Lofts @ 9th & Flower located:

This diagram is of 717 Ninth, which is listed on the first page of this thread as 717 Flower (colemonkee- I remember somthing about the name going back and forth(?), but Meruelo's website has 717 9th) . The diagram was created before the updated rendering was released. I also see now we have the official height, which is missing on the diagram.

While looking at this diagram, I noticed LA is missing a few diagrams of buildings that are currently under construction.

Missing (buildings over 15 floors):

The Century
Concerto Tower 1
Concerto Tower 2 (proposed)
Evo
The Carlyle
Solair Wilshire
NoHo Tower

Also, The Emhurst and Wilshire Center are listed as "under construction" in the LA Metro thread. I haven't seen any movement from site prep, so they may have stalled.

If anyone has time to tackle any of these diagrams it would be much appreciated. Patrick has been "the man" lately pumping out most of the LA diagrams. Thanks Patrick!

And the proposed "The Grand" doesn't have a diagram. That should be a fun one to diagram.

^Yeah pretty much 90% - 80% of LA's diagrams are drawn by me, LA is my place mann!

Unfortunantly I dont draw buildings under construction until the building is completed, or has a good portion of the facade up, so (take for example the Hanover, I recently did a drawing on) so I dont have to redo the drawing when the building is complete or if it got a design change.

Although can someone get a good picture of Evo because I really want to draw it but I havent found a good picture of it yet.

From yesterday:

LAPD HQ

Closer on the auditorium.

Glass has made it's way around to the north side. The auditorium kind of blocks it from the wider view, for now.

Spring's officially on it's way. That tree hasn't had leaves on it for months.

Foundation work on the Motor Pool building continues. I think they still have to go a bit further down.

Medallion

Slow but steady progress.

And some quick walk-around shots...

The backside of the Rowan.

The building on 2nd and Broadway getting a new paint job. The blue is new.

Work starting on the retail space in the Pan American Building (notice the studs and Port-o-potty). Anyone know what's going in here?

Bonus bonus: dangerous work cutting up the street.

Unfortunately, no. I rented it for a photo shoot I did in NY. If anyone has $1,400 they're willing to donate to me, I'll pick one up right away.

Assuming that when k3d took this picture, construction was at the 15 floor, then 20 additional floors are still to be added.

My best photoshop effort puts the tower at about the height pictured below.

When do we see the Concerto, 717 Ninth, and Ritz Carlton cranes increase in height? In their current status, the cranes are much shorter than their project's intended height.

Don't they usually rise with the tower they're being used on?

They'll rise when construction reaches a point that requires them to rise. 717 Ninth obviously won't rise for a while because it's positioned above Promerica Tower, but the Ritz and Concerto cranes may rise sometime in the next 3-4 weeks, the Ritz cranes probably being the first to go up.
