Wow! You guys are amazing! All I did was vent about my frustration with SLC Intl., and Projects gives me the 20-year plan in one photo, I think based on one of the photos taken by Skyboy!

I tried to find a copy of the plan and was directed to where it resides in the SL County library system, which doesn't do me much good from my home in middle Georgia. Nevertheless, I did find a few overview maps and, Projects, it seems you got it right...Well done!

I feel inadequate on this forum because I'm not an architect, planner, nor civil engineer and no longer live in SLC. So I don't have much to contribute, other than opinions...for what they are worth. Thanks for the great information.

That's OK RFPCME, I'm a tax accountant. About as far from the architect and engineering field as you can get. I am here to get in touch with my inner building geek self. Welcome to the forum and we're glad to have you.

I, like T-Mac, am about as far from a city planner as you can get. I work for a software company but love urban development and planning.

There's no such thing as inadequate here... Just hang out for a bit and you will be a pro before you know it

BTW, welcome to the forum! I love all of the excitement here, I remember the days when SLC representation numbered 2 (Comrade and Me

) This forum has become probably the best and most up to date place to get info on SLC development anywhere!

I stopped at Carlucci's to pic up some canoli yesterday, sure was great to see all of the improvements being made over at Pioneer Park. Also noticed a lot of activity at the Broadway Lofts site.

I received an update yesterday on the Broadway Park Lofts. The first tower should be complete by the end of May and the remaining two towers will be complete by Q4 '08

I look at the aerial of Pioneer Park and even though I like what is going on there, it's still pretty pathetic.

The apartment complex just east of the park has got to go. It's too suburban for a downtown and taking up valuable land that could be used for larger density development. The parking lots at the east-end of Pierpont Avenue have always bugged me, as well. That would be a perfect place for a couple of residential towers, not tall, but maybe 15 or so stories. Finally, and this will probably not happen because it's owned by the Greek Orthodox Church, but the small events building north of the church and the parking lot north of that does not look good at all. I've always hated that small building next to the church, but the parking lot makes it worse.

So while I'm glad things are changing, still a lot of work left to be done before the neighborhood is at a solid level. Luckily, I think we're heading in that direction.

Comrade, I actually heard that the Greek Orthodox Church has plans to completely redevelop their properties surrounding the church. I've even heard rumors of extending Pierpont through that block, connecting it all the way from 400 west to West Temple. <crosses fingers>

I love what they're doing with the park, but I wish they'd tear out the old sidewalks that cross the park at a diagonal. I swear the city originally put those sidewalks there to cover the dead grass from all the traffic going from the shelter on one side to the liquor store on the other side..

While I like the redesign in some ways I think there is to much in the park. I feel that as the neighborhood continues to grow that open space will be appreciated by those living nearby. I think some improvements such as a B-Ball Court and a stage are good additions and maybe a dog park area, but I feel that there needs to be some open space to allow for someone to go out with there buddies after work or with their family (hoping families will move to DT) and throw a frisby or football.

I think the parking lots S. of the Crane building on 300 West would be ideal for a couple of 10-12 story office of residential towers but it could also be a great location for a year round farmers market, especially if Pierpont were to be extended to 200 W. Another great spot for a farmer market would be mid block were the Palladio Apartments are, east of Pioneer Park. As Comrade pointed out, this is a waste of urban land with a mere 3 level suburban style apartment complex (although I think it was appropriate when it was built and has helped to bring residents into downtown). It needs to be replaced with some commercial, residential and other uses.

There is plenty room to throw a frisbee, football, or play croquet. look at the spaces between the Salt Palace and the columnar trees. Those are large spaces, about 40 yards from east to west, and 80 yards north to south. The scale is not accurate.

While I like your design, I don't think a rebuilt Salt Palace would be small enough to fit in where you have it. That thing looks like it would only hold 50 or so people. Unless that's what you were going for, then ignore this comment.

I think if you were to fit a big enough hall for concerts, you'd have to probably expand it out to where those big trees are -- and even that would still most likely be smaller than the original.

The stage that is labeled on my design is for the outdoor amphitheater. The Salt Palace wouldn't actually be used as a theater like it once was. It would serve either as a park pavilion, or a small museum with exhibits of the original Salt Palace (which was down on 9th south somewhere between West Temple and State Street), pioneer park, and the Mormon fort. Also, this is a ten acre block. I think the scale of the Salt Palace in my drawing is pretty accurate. It's the tennis courts and basketball courts that are off, but you get the idea.

I like that design of the park unbanboy. That would be awesome to bring back the old Salt Palace. But if we would bring it back would we call it "Salt Palace" and if we did what we rename the "Salt Palace" we have now?

There weren't talks of changing the name but adding to the name, which has now officially been done.

It is now called the Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center.

I could see a replica of the orginal Salt Palace working on that site but only as an open air type pavilion.
