Damage to the Walker Center?

As we all know the Walker Center Tower underwent a renovation. The tower received a new sign on top and a bank moved into the ground floor. However has anyone noticed the stone pillars seem to be damaged and crews have left it like that?

Here are some pics of what I'm talking about.

There are holes in the stone where the old sidewalk cover used to hang. But crews never patched up those holes.

You can see the holes in all the stone pillars as well as there seems to be damage around where the windows are. I think it looks ugly and unfinished.

Is the renovation done? If so this seems like sloppy work to me. Crews need to come back in and patch up those holes. What do you guys think? Have any of you guys noticed it when walking by?

I would imagine they had waited until the work was finished before taking an inventory of the situation, and then ordering the necessary new pieces for replacement. That would usually be the case.

Could the holes be for the comming canopy? I think they are still planning on placing a canopy on the building.

While taking pics of the CCC the other day I also walked by the old Hansen Planetarium. The building will soon become a O.C. Tanner. But while I was there I went to the back of the building to see what was going on. Here is what I found.

I notice that crews have been tearing down the back half of the building where the theater used to be. I wounder if they needed that space for rear parking.

I am so happy that OC Tanner bought the building. I really think that is a great location and building for OC Tanner. What a Jewel in the city's crown, no pun intended. OC Tanner is a great company!

OC Tanner should build a 20-story tower for offices behind the old planetarium. Yes, I quite like that idea. Get them on the phone.

Yes Projects, they are going build a two level parking garage in the rear.

I want to start seeing building not so close to each other, down town. If we ever get anything taller than 30 stories, I want it to be a building that is pleasent from more than just the 1-15 view. Our skyline needs more dept, Not a mainstreet and state street thick wall of buildings.

I have to say that I'm glad to see some activity happening at the former Hansen Planetarium. It's a beautiful building that sat idle far too long.

And if I may I have to mention that because it is St. Patrick's Day the sweet LDS ladies in my office brought in green root beer. It made me a laugh a bit. If anybody knows any great places in SLC to grab a real green beer tonight send me a message.

theres a place on state street right across from the SLCC south city campus that is suposed to be having a huge party tonight they say.

Theater advocates eye 8 to 10 spots for Broadway-class venue

Muir noted eight to 10 spots are being considered for a Broadway-class theater that must be "highly utilitarian" and flexible enough to house more than just plays.
Salt Lake Chamber President Lane Beattie suggested a condo tower should also be considered.

Thanks Viperlord, some very exciting news and proposals. I like the idea of a condo tower and the old newspaper agency plot on Regent Street. I would like to see the Pantages restoration, AND the condo tower AND the Theatre on Regent Street. All at the same time!! Hey, I'm not greedy.

looks like a good spot for an office building. I would guess it wouldnt be anything too tall though. it is a corner lot, and SLC tries to keep buildings on the corner lots at atleast 100'+. I would say probably no taller than 10-12 stories max, but could be a lot smaller as well. The property is located in a RM-U zone, which is a residential mixed use zone. The listing says that it is for an office building though? interesting. the height limit for the property is 75 feet, but with a mixed use conditional use it could go up to 125 feet. Its anyones guess on what will be built on this property.

Never posted on this thread before, but I just spent the last couple of hours reading the last 50 pages or so--very interesting stuff. As I read about the competition for projects, speculation on new projects, commentary on ongoing projects, a thought grew in my mind until it's screaming at my fingers to post it. On 01/01/08, Delts asked the a question about the airport. The question was ignored for a while, then someone (God bless 'em) answered with a usage report and a link to a proposed expansion plan. The usage is up dramatically, could be far higher if the proposed Delta/NWA merger ever takes place (which I'm beginning to believe will not). No matter. A huge crack in all of Northern Utah's development is the airport. The word is "awful." I made my living for more than 25 years flying in and out of that airport, much of it interantional, until about 18 months ago when I decided to stop fighting the battle and relocate (Georgia), much closer to where my business is.

Since Western Airlines made SLC a hub so many years ago, the development has been willy-nilly, no one ready to bite the bullet, take 5 years, lots of money, and build an airport that will serve the region well into this century.

The airline industry is a disaster. Fuel prices, as well as replacement aircraft prices, are soaring, which is exactly why now is the perfect time to knock that thing down and start again.

Large concourses with parking stands capable of servicing heavy aircraft are dinosaurs. At best, SLC international may need two. What's desaparately needed are most efficient, smaller councourses, with much easier traveler access.

The land, money, and infrastructure spent on overnight parking is embarrassing. I swear there is more overnight parking at SLC Int than at O'Hare or Hartsfield/Jackson (supposedly the two busiest airports in the world). It's time to build the mass-transit links to the airport and let the private sector handle parking, then put the land to use for what is supposed to be for--getting people on and off airplanes.

If 35,40, 45 story towers are ever going to be built in SLC, Salt Lake must capitalize on its best asset: its location, smack dab in the center of the West. But the only way to do this is to make the City more accessible to the rest of the world.

Very much agreed RFPCME, I wish we had jumped on the expansion before the disasters of this new millenium. It would seem that there is serious movement toward a new airport, but now the airlines are facing the crisis of skyrocketing fuel prices. How long this current hiccup will take to settle is anyones guess. A large additional tract of land was recently secured and serious plans have taken on a certain urgency. One thing is for sure, "the airport has been a major part of our growth." The community must invest in the airport soon in order to keep up a competitive edge and continue the advantage of its strategic location.

Projects works out at the airport and could possibly give us an update on any recent gossip.
