I only count 8 above the box in Architype's pic.
The lower level of the penthouse looks like it has a higher than normal ceiling height.
See I counted the 8 story above the box as where the Orange netting starts, And then the new half floor they are working on as nine. However, in that photo it is decieving as it is hard to tell if there are two floors or just one taller floor. Looks like the drawing has a bit of a taller floor, but the picture looks to half a very high floor height.
Look at the 53 sign and count up. 53 + 9 = 62 floors :
Guys look at this again, there are 61 full floors than you should count the second floor of the penthouse as a 62 floors by their numbering on the building. Now the interesting thing is how the first floor of the penthouse as per their layout on page 49 is 60 and the second floor of the penthouse is 61. So there is a discrepancy. So yes it could be a issue with the floor numbers on the building, however, When I used to work for one of the construction elevator companys a few years back I asked abou the whole missing floor 4, 13 etc. Because they didn't count them on the lift if they were not going to be on the building. The reason being if you are going to show a suite to the buyer the correct number has to be on the floor. So they put accurate numbers on the building. I don't know the deal I am just pointing out what I see.
Just noticed on the way to work that the fins are now being placed up. RAPIDLY, I might add. I think they are going to really add that extra bit of height we're all praying for with this structure.
^ Yeah I noticed them on my lunch break. They are taller than I expected. They look like white steel frames held up by angular supports behind them. From my angle the North and East sides of the building had them up already.

I think it's deceiving because the 2nd floor of the penthouse does not extend out to either of the Thurlow or Georgia edges, but does extend to the diagonal edge - so what you see in that diagonal edge pic is really the 2nd floor of the penthouse - i.e 61st - and it stops there. You can see it in the pic below.

Sweet. Those look like they are definitely tall enough to conceal the mech penthouse. I wonder what the likelihood is that they will be backlit or floodlit at night when the building is completed.
So what's the likelihood this building will be completed in 2008?
Is 2009 a more reasonable completion year?
It looks like they've put more signs up on the hoarding at georgia & thurlow saying fall 2008...wasn't someone saying earlier that they were gonna have the residents move in at the end of the year, and then have the hotel open sometime afterwards.

OK this is probably a dumb question, but what exactly are/is "fins"???
Fins are like when an artist creates a painting, to add its final touch the painting would look more professional if framed, a building without proper fins is like a painting with no frame, its all in the aesthetic and it hides the mechanical blocks associated with the building services.

Great pictures everybody. It seems you can always count on lots of pictures of the Shangri-La whenever something remotely significant happens on site.
Just for fun I thought I'd mess around with SFUVancouver's pic and attempt to add the curtain wall all the way to the top of the fin frames to give a better sense of the finished product. You'll have to excuse the shabby rush job I did on it.
