Salt Lake hoping for Broadway-style theater

I have long been a proponent of each city in the metro doing it's level best to grow,prosper and compete. I want every town to realize it's potential.

However, in this case of a venue specifically designed to accomodate larger broadway productions, there is no question that downtown should be the first and foremost place to build. Even though Sandy would be more convenient for me, I would be disgusted to see downtown Salt Lake be passed over for such a venue in favor of Sandy.

More power to Mayor Becker. Certain people on Capital Hill had better not sabotage the process of placing this theatre where it obviously belongs, "Downtown!!!"

I might be moving to Salt Lake this summer. I am looking at an internship downtown. I currently live in Provo, so if I take the job I will probably move. I was thinking about living near the U and using Trax. Can anyone recommend some good cheap housing?

I never had any for Mayor Anderson. I think old Ralph will be a pretty successful mayor, or, at least, I hope he will be.

I'm not a Dolan or Sandy hater, but I do really want to see Mayor Becker win this one for Downtown. I'm anxious to hear what comes out of that 10:30 meeting this-morning.

I am so excited about this. Mayor Becker has only been in office for a little over a month and I am already impressed. He's mending burnt bridges and he's facing Sandy head on. I can just hear Mayor Becker whispering under his breath, "Bring it Dolan"

I love that while there are only 7 comments about the article, all of them support it being in downtown and several of them comment how much they can't stand Dolan.

There is no question in my mind that if both of them get built, one will fail. To borrow language from Urban Meyer, the one that will fail will be the theater to the south.

I like the theater news, but I really wonder what will be revealed today if anything. I kinda get the feeling that it may be a "fluff" kinda news conference, to let people know that they want the theater downtown. He'll probably point out possible locations, and point out possible funding options, but I really got to wonder what it will all be.

Here is hoping for the best.

I still think that a theatre of this caliber should have naming rights. Something like Eccles,Holding, etc. would speed up this funding process.

Posted: 11:37 AM- SANDY -- A train conductor who nearly defeated Utah House Speaker Greg Curtis is challenging him again.
Jay Seegmiller, a Democrat, will run in Utah's District 49 in Salt Lake County.
Curtis, a Republican, won by just 20 votes in 2006. Many voters were unhappy with him over his support for a professional soccer stadium in Sandy.
Seegmiller says his priorities include changing Utah laws on campaign finance and ethics in the Legislature. He works for Amtrak and has twice received a top safety award.

could be good to get Curtis out of office, since he plays favorites with Sandy.

congrats future mayor. If I had a few million lying around I'd invest in your company. As is, the only expendable income I could offer is about $20 in change I've been saving in a jar on my window seal; it's taken me a long time to save it, but for the sake of development in SLC I'd be willing to part with it, and for you, I'd offer a very low interest rate
