Anyone know status of this SkyTower project. Understand this development is being done by Young-In Development Inc. (from Jung Development Inc.)

On June 13, 2007, Korean developer, Jung Development Inc. closed a $220 million major construction financing. Jung is among the largest Asian development companies operating in B.C. $170 million of the $220 million financing facility was committed by a syndicate of senior lenders led by CIBC and including RBC, Woori Bank of Korea (the largest financial group in Korea) and BCMP Mortgage Corporation, and $50 million mezzanine financing facility was committed by Lehman Brothers Holding Inc. in U.S. but led by Lehman's Korean operations.

SFU Surrey has no relation this project, it is being proposed by a private individual.

Does anyone know the status of this project? The sign (at site) indicates it was all "pre-sold" but appears to be no activity.

Richmond City Centre revitalization plays key role in Canada Line project

A new initiative to revitalize Richmond City Centre began last week with the restoration of the urban environment surrounding No. 3 Road.

Richmond City Centre is an important link on the Canada Line, which is a 19.5 kilometre rapid transit line linking downtown Vancouver and the Vancouver International Airport.

No. 3 Road was selected as the most appropriate route for the Canada Line because that part of Richmond has the highest population density in the north-south corridor between Vancouver and Richmond.

The city of Richmond announced plans to begin the restoration of No. 3 Road on Feb. 5, as the construction of the Canada Line elevated guideway in Richmond neared completion.

The goal of this $3.5 million dollar project is to integrate the elevated guideway into the east side of No. 3 Road, while revitalizing the roadway environment.

“While Canada Line finishes the guideway construction and building the transit stations, the city will begin roadway restoration along No. 3 Road. This will include construction of the transit station plazas in order to make the street more pedestrian and cycle-friendly,” said Greg Scott, director of major projects with the city of Richmond.

“The plans will ensure that the Canada Line contributes positively to other developments within the city centre, such as the Richmond Oval and major fronting developments.”

The first phase of restoration work, between Bridgeport Road and Cambie Road, was tendered in December 2007 and was awarded to Imperial Paving Ltd.

“We started yesterday (Feb. 11) and are doing some preliminary layout and saw cutting, before we get started,” said Gordon Hartshorne, senior vice president at Imperial Paving Ltd.

“We are saw cutting the asphalt vertically, so it can be removed by machine. The job involves removing and replacing the existing curbs and sidewalks. We will also be doing a bike path, streets lights and plants. Landscaping is also a large component of the project.”

The restoration of No. 3 Road will require a crew of 12 to 14 people and includes the construction of continuous centre medians complete with new street lights, street trees and shrub planting, the construction of raised bike lanes and universally accessible intersections, with audible traffic signals, pavement warning strips and decorative paving treatments, street furniture such as benches, litter receptacles, bike racks and lockers and new bus shelters.

The project also includes the complete restoration of the east boulevard and the partial reconstruction of the west boulevard south of Alderbridge Way.

The timeline for construction has been broken into three phases. The first phase is Bridgeport Road to Cambie Road, which is scheduled for completion by July 10.

Phases two and three will directly follow and are expected to be complete by September 2009.

The main impact of construction on the public is traffic pattern changes.

“The biggest challenge we will face is traffic, because we are working with commercial properties and businesses,” Hartshorne said.

To deal with this issue, the paving company will not close down No. 3 Road. Instead, they will use lane closures and minor traffic diversions.

Imperial was involved in the original B line construction work on No. 3 Road five years ago.

“We found traffic quite co-operative,” he said

I loved the raised bike lans concept and I hope to see that they continue the No.3 road bikeway all the past up to the Canada Line bridge to Vancouver and continue it down on Cambie.

The Mercedes Benz Dealership on Marine in North Van is getting a substantial Reno. I didnt think it looked too bad, but I guess the design was getting a bit dated. This one will meet the street much better, although there isnt much of a streetscape on Marine to meet...

the current plan for MB looks quite nice on the front setback with the raised ground, boulders, with a car on top - very rugged.

now all you need to do is to add two lanes of car traffic, remove the gold mb, put in a red station wagon, a black banged up pick up truck, a late model dodge minivan, a small truck or two, some fog, reorient the view to the east a tad, show some ugly buildings adjacent to it, and your set!

i think bed bath and beyond is opening up, Liz Claiborne and rumours of H&M

tim hortons opened not too long ago and it has a huge Urban Behaviour store

It would be smart to put H&M there - huge attraction the mall. I haven't been there for a while... how is it now? The last time I went it was like renovating which was like three four years ago?

And how is the mall compared to Guilford. I didn't really like Guilford even though there were a few stores i liked - it's really dated and old...

i like the mall much more than Guildford except it has a lack of stores and is kinda down market feeling but look wise looks modern and bright and the food court is really nice actually - better than what guildford calls a food court

since T&T moved in the mall has become really busy, and than furture shop moved in and shoppers drug mart moved to a better outside/private entrance and than Winners opened and its even busier

a lot of typical stores have moved in - Urban Planet, Urban Behaviour etc.

the brick took over the always empty old Extra Foods location, seems whatever ended up there was temporary

i think the influx of having a student body has helped as well as well as the office workers from the tower

plus the dead ends are all gone so its easy to navigate now and even if there is nothing down the way you can at least walk around

a few months ago on one of the coming soon walls they had "i hope its H&M, I hope its Liz Claiborne, I hope its Bed Bath & Beyond - so its speculated those stores will end up in there - but those signs are now gone - but they were done with the store/comapny fonts logos etc.

why tease people about something thats not going to happen - they could have just gone generic like - i hope its a pet store or i hope its a shoe store etc.

anyway in a few years it could be quite the place - if it can get some better stores and start filling up

behind all those walls they are building stores currently, you can hear all the contruction...and I was talking to the manager of one of the stores and they said H&M has been to the mall again recently to looking at different locations, and it looks like that will be next to or across from Urban Behaviour....its looking really good so far!
