SFView - Wow, I stood in almost the same spot they did for their rendering. It's definitely getting close.

Dave - I haven't been counting, but they've been moving up the building very quickly. Would 2-3 days per floor be a reasonable speed?

WonderlandPark - those are both great shots for seeing all the new stuff in the larger context. You should drop them in the Rundown thread as they provide good updates for the overall skyline.

Now we can start to see the top/crown taking shape. And you can see they have started staging parts of the crane that will lower the tower crane down:


From this angle, you can now clearly see the roof is complete (much thicker level on the left):


And although that shot doesn't show it very clearly, it's obvious the core is done when viewed from the west. I think that's what they were celebrating the other day because it's clear this thing still has some height to be added based on the columns of rebar still protruding out the top.

I was thinking most of the exterior would be complete, with the level reaching the top floor. However, they still have to remove those man-lifts and install glass in its place for it to be truly complete, something like what they did at One Rincon.

And are still doing at ORH: there's still another exterior lift on it. Plus they haven't yet installed all the pieces that were left off at the tower crane mounts and there's also some random balcony glass to be installed. Although neither of those will be the case on 301.

Millennium tops off with sales office, BBQ feast

The Millennium, the tallest residential tower west of Chicago, had its topping off ceremony Feb. 8, hosting a barbecue feast for 400 construction workers. The curtain wall is now up past the 42nd floor. The sales office opened Nov. 8 and 15 percent of the units -- 60 or so -- are in contract. Prices have averaged over $1,500 a square foot for the lower floors, $1,800 for higher floors, and $2,200 for the penthouses.

"One of the brightest spots is how the top of the building is being established," said Managing Director Richard Baumert.

A nice little update from our friends at www.webcor.com with mostly information that we know or have speculated about. Cool new pictures though:

FEBRUARY 2008

TOWER
Webcor & Millennium celebrated the “Topping Off” for the tower structure on Friday, February 8, preceded by a world class BBQ and a brass band. The final ceremonial concrete bucket with the traditional tree was hoisted to the top of the building to mark its structural completion. Although this may be the completion of one step, the actual finish won’t happen for a year.

The crane logistics has started in the middle of February with the “roof mounted” crane being placed on level 59. The “tower” crane will be gone before the end of the month and the “roof mounted” crane will “pick up” the load where the tower crane left off. The next step of this tedious procedure won’t occur until sometime this coming May.

The tower’s dress blues (the window wall) will have crept up to level 44 by the end of February. The building is expected to be fully glazed by the end of the May to early June.

The labor intensive interior work is marching up the building transforming a gray and sparse concrete space into elegant condominiums. As simple as sentence might describe it; there’s high amount of time and coordination required to successfully complete the interior finishes in a project of this magnitude. As of this writing, just in the “Tower” structure itself, the project is currently involving more than 20 Subcontractors and roughly 250 craft workers currently spanning the height of the building. The first milestone for this scope will be the “punch list” of the first finished floors.

MID-RISE
Webcor Concrete has been moving along like a steam locomotive by running a six day floor cycle! By the time we say hello to March, the level 9 deck will have been curing for a day or two. Don’t blink; the concrete will be topped out in the Mid-Rise very shortly.

The structural steel work will kick off with three big beams in the atrium area and later on a series freshly painted cantilevered beams will be hung over the remaining area of the atrium. After this scope of work has been completed there’s only two more major steel activities remaining for the mid-rise.

Good news! The storefront work has commenced and the Subcontractor will be busy during the month of February doing layout and setting up steel supports. We’ll keep you posted.

The second picture gives a nice comparison to 50 Fremont heightwise, they both look about the same from that angle, but 301 doesnt has its crown yet, so it will surely look taller by then.

The last picture just looks plain awesome. The fins, with assistance from the sun, create a nice effect on the façade of the building when viewed from that angle.

On Friday, a mystery shopper agreed to buy the unfinished penthouse at the Millennium Tower for $11 million. That's $2,288.81 for each of the San Francisco property's 4,800 square feet, a range rarely exceeded even when the space is built out - that is to say, when it actually includes walls and finishes.
The buyer, who wasn't identified per the building owner's policy, put down $1 million to begin the escrow process.

Just so others may not be mistaken, those nice photos are still 3 slab levels from the top. The core doesn't look topped off yet either, but getting close.

Right you are, I forgot to add that. Some photos taken by photographers on Flickr show the skyline from Treasure Island, with Millenium now rising above 50 Fremont and still not complete. I guess Webcor is just a tad behind.

Nice timing! The truck with the crane from 301 Mission just happened to drive down Harrison while you were walking between ORH and Infinity. Unless you followed it over there.
