Last month Blair Kamin named the 10 ugliest condominium buildings in downtown Chicago, and we asked for readers' thoughts on the subject. Here are some of the responses, which have been edited for space.

A 171-room hotel that promises a new gateway to Chinatown has won city approval.

The Chicago Plan Commission last month approved plans for the 15-story hotel Grand Imperial Hotel at 2101-2126 S. Clark St.

The curved face of the Clare looks great from Rush & Wabash, and how it rises up from behind that midrise.

Trump in the distance is becoming very dominant as well.

I might have been confused but thought I saw discussion about this one changing architects & from apartments to office.

215 W. Washington has not changed architects and is still apartments.

^^^ There was a float for the imperial hotel in the New Years parade yesterday. Also, it appears they are opening a sales center in the Mallish thingy on the north side of Chinatown, in the new half of the area.

That's one of my favorite buildings. A power station? It's beautiful. I hope they turn it into a museum one day.

Even though the design for that chinatown thing is goofy, I really hope this goes forward. It would be great to have 10-15 story residential in chinatown link all the way with 30-45 story buildings in the south south loop and then link with 50+ from 18th to the loop. I have a feeling this building can help inspire some density as far south as cermak

It's the Union Station Power House. I like it too. I don't think it'll go anywhere anytime soon, since the train yards pretty much prevent any sort of development.

Why do they need a sales center for a hotel?

^^^ Aren't there some hotel-condos or something in there? Whatever it is there is a storefront that is covered in advertisements for this building. Maybe its a just an office and PR outpost.

^ That area of town is in some serious need of density, no question about it. That Clark/Archer corner has a lot of potential. I'd like to see some sort of development link that corner with Pointe 1900 to the east. I'm really disappointed with the redevelopment with the Hilliard Homes, however. What a giant waste for absolutely nothing; preserve the buildings, but who the hell needs all those empty grass fields...

It's hotel-condos. The idea is to sell most of them to Mainland Chinese businessmen who travel to Chicago a lot on business and also want an investment to diversify their holdings.

the developer for this hotel is also planning some big asian food market for chinatown. there are signs for it in his office in the chinatown mall.
