I think Amacon is owned by the de Cotiis family
and Bosa by the Bosa's
competitors...

condohype in this town is hilarious. (and lucrative apparently)
the true value added is questionable.

anyone know if the CRU at Silver Sea has been taken yet? Seems like a great location for a high end restaurant.....or even a Starbucks

re: "The Beasley". this is what our current chief planner had to say about it (excerpt from minutes of the development board meeting)

"Regarding the architecture, Mr. Toderian thought it was a shame that the design of the building wasn’t more interesting. He felt the building was well resolved but not particularly different from other buildings in the area."

so, stay tuned for another Yaletown Park/Vita.

Nope. Still empty - walked by the other day.
There are a couple of high-end restaurants in that area already, another high-end restaurant there would either do well or suffer due to proximity. I think a $tarbucks or Blenz or (PLEASE) JJ Bean would be perfect there...watch the world go by on the seawall, the Vancouver way.

---------

I went by the Steve Nash sports club today at 5:30pm. When looking at the 2 floors from the windows, there are ~100 work-out machines, in 2 rows of 7 at a time. At 5:30pm today (Monday) there was a grand total of...~10 people using all of those machines.

So much for Vancouver's huge appetite for after-work gyms. If it can't work there, the one proposed for Storeyum is going down, down down...

Oh, one more update.
I walked the length of downtown Granville today. Last year I mapped the undeveloped lots and reported they were nearly all in the process of development.

Today I was pleased to discover: the last undeveloped lot now has a development application on it. Looks like a nice project too - there was a rendering posted next to the Dev. Application (they are actively looking for retailers). The lot is across the alley from Brava, so it's near the bridge end.

At last! Granville will be complete! And the quality of the developments is definitely improving. Bye bye skanky XXX shops and bad 99c pizzas, hello decent businesses.

I liked the little bit of sleaze Granville had. I'll be sad to see those porn shops close. I never went in, but they added a certain flavour to the area. Maybe they'll relocate to Hastings or something.

Hehe, don't get me wrong, I've been inside of a few adult video stores in my time, just not the Granville ones. I like the inside of a XXX shop to be as clean and clinical as possible. Granville's variety look run down and shady, but I appreciate them regardless.

The Beasley will be built to LEED Gold compliance. That's good.

This is the older scheme from the GBL website (before the UDP got to it to standardize it) - I think this was a better podium (the tower would have depended on the quality of the glass - i.e. the spandrels may have looked as bad as Flagship and Mariner).

Sorry for my ignorance, but is this the HOMER or the BEASLEY, because Mandula is located right next door, she is out to relocate but still hasn't found a suitable place, lastly the day the passage way was being built, there was a tenant coming out of that old building after chatting with him, he was telling they were all being kick out due to demolition, so I don't know if they are saving the old building, cause the tenant told be otherwise, can you clarify this for me, please, i like this old building very much, there are very few alike left in this city!
thanks for your help in this matter

"The Homer" was the working name. The current name is "The Beasley".

Read this report - it describes the heritage retention (as you can see "The Homer" - the red building - is being preserved, the other building to the north will not be preserved).

Here are a couple pictures I took on Friday from around the Safeway site...

I will miss the Homer Cafe. Eventually all the divey breakfast places will disappear from downtown I suppose, that's a shame.
