Or that crazy guy from Texas... This space would be large enough to accommodate a WTB with a somewhat efficiant floor plate size...
Perhaps Rokas Intl. does not have a deep pocket enough to buy the eight-acre vacant site. Any developer with larger equities like Magellan, Centrum, John Buck Co., even Hines can do this type of development. I am sure any of the said buyer might swoop in and buy them, and start putting up 80-stories building before a nimby group cries foul.
I don't think that there's really anything to be to disapointed about. This gives us something to look forward to in the future. Maybe Shelbourne Development will buy it

Rokas is kind of a shady dealer. So far, they haven't completed a single development. Mr. Augunas, the owner, thought he could make a bundle building towers in a hot neighborhood. He didn't let his complete lack of experience stand in the way.

.....Load tests on Solstice's shear walls to the east and west identified areas where the concrete carried comparatively little force, allowing voids to be cut into walls. The voids get larger as the wall rises and carries less weight, that open up what would otherwise be rather monolithic forms. Antheus will be seeking LEED certification for the project, which will also pursue such niceties as recycling rainwater for lawn irrigation. ^Like I said at SSC, the post of mine which he cites in his article simply quotes what Chicago Shawn, who actually attended the meeting, had to say about it. As much as I'd like to hog the spotlight, Shawn deserves the credit.

Well like you said they're rehabs. There are very few vacant lots in HP. There are places along Stony Island though.
Oh yeah, I am digging that totally blank wall on Lake Street. It's starting to look a lot like the Dana hotel project. I hope they manage to clad it with something nice at least.
Maybe some day someone will work with the little site to the east, and correct this with an elegant sliver high rise.
^^^ I agree as long as its only that short section. I mean a blank wall can serve many important roles in architecture, I have a feeling this strip is only to separate the all-glass portion of the design from the glass and unidentified black material portion of the design.
I'm eager to see some renderings for the tower. I attended the plan commission hearing for the 3-tower river north center amended pd a couple years ago.
From what I recall, there's supposed to be a 35 story rental tower on Clark and Hubbard. On Clark and Kinzie they're planning a 10+ story parking garage with retail.

That's too bad if they're currently only planning 35-stories, as I believe the amended PD (most of this block, including the new Mariott, and the block to the south where 353 N Clark is going up) to I believe gives them up to 498 ft. for the residential tower...

it would be great if everyone would spend a few moments looking through the list for any mistakes and omissions. i've been out of commission for awhile and it would be nice to start out the new year with as accurate a list as possible. let me know if you find anything.

I have some good news! I picked up a copy of the Chicago Journal today and on the front page there was an article about the cool new addition to Rush hospital being approved by the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board. It is 14 stories, will cost $617 million to build, and should begin construction this summer. There were a couple of renderings in the article. Maybe someone can find an online article to link to. TUP always seems pretty good at finding Chicago Journal articles.
