If you're talking about the Riverview development it won't be happening for a number of years yet, especially if they use the northern route.

Could it be something to do with this? Not many views to block thanks to the very few houses south of it and then a steep forested hill which means there are virtually no views to be blocked. Not to mention that most uses around there are industrial or commercial and to top it off the Evergreen line should have a stop next to it and theres a current WCE station also. perfect project for something big with allot of units.

I know you can't give too much away, but is this related to the Concord Pacific-like development in Surrey you mentioned a couple of months ago?

theres that huge development proposed in Cqoutilam - opposite IKEA - near the river - 12 towers or more plus townhouses, a possible BCIT campus and retail

^I remember hearing about that. I guess Braid would be the closest skytrain station to that site. I don't know if it's walking distance though.

Its near a regional town center and will be along the new Evergreen Line. Still in the very early stages so dont expect any announcements soon.

its not too far like 10 minutes on the south side if it could be walked safely

my friend worked at the winners and walked down from braid but to do so you have to go to the north side of hwy 1 and than back south and it took over 20 minutes

if they put in a trail on the south side to the station it would be quick - currently the only route is a one way traffic bridge not for pedestrians

^ The problem with having a trail from the proposed 12 tower "Crane" site to Braid station is that there is a lot for a large warehouse/industrial building blocking direct access. They would have to purchase land from them for an easemant over their property - and even then - they are using that land for truck parking. It would be ideal for that site to be redeveloped but the current owners have no intention of packing up and leaving anytime soon.

The station itself is actually on the Warehouse property.

The map of the Crane site on the Civitas website shows a pedestrian bridge at the east end of the site. If that bridge were moved to the middle of the site to allign north-south with the back edge of the park (is there a road there?), it would provide a reasonable route in the interim through the park and along Braid St to the station. Unless a path can be built along the railway right-of-way (but that's quite isolated).

these projects are huge. one thing i have noticed is the lack of non market housing built into these projects. It seems like almost every development downtown is required to include non market housing but when it comes to the suburbs there never seems to be any mention of it. personally, it makes more sense to build social housing out in the suburbs rather than say DTES.

on a side note I'm wondeirng when Concord grabs a chunk or 2 of property in Surrey to do a "Concord Gateway" in Richmond style development. Or is Surrey to well Surrey for them to touch and sullen the Concord name?

Maybe it IS A REGIONAL TOWN CENTER.......cough Lougheed Mall redevelopment cough cough

Realistically that site would easily hold 4500 Units and as Burnaby has good height limits it could realistically have a signature tower or 2 taller than Obliesk no problems.

Both those Malls are RIPE for Redevelopment. Who doesnt wanna live in a condo connected to a shopping mall?

if memory serves me correct the same owners own both Brentwood and Lougheed malls.....I know they are advancing redevelopment plans at Brentwood.....so why not the other property also

I believe this is what he is talking about. The redevelopment of this old lumber mill on the waterfront in Port Moody.
