I do remember this. That would be exciting.

The 1LP retail space is about 11,000 sq. ft with 35 dedicated parking spaces. That's not terribly small. I wonder how large the Cook's Fresh Market on 16th St. is.

I've never been to a Trader Joe's, but their average store size is 10,000 sq. ft. Whole Foods is 2.5 times that.

I used to go to a pretty small Whole Foods in downtown Philadelphia. I'd bet it was no bigger than 10,000 feet (I'm sure you appreciate my precision).

The plan as related to me by the sales guy is to build a 7 story building directly in front of 1LP... that will be the grocery store. There will be a rooftop garden connected by skybridge to to amenity deck of 1LP.

The idea being that folks will by lunch at a Whole Foods and go up to the roof park to eat and stuff....

I think it's doubtful given Osborns legal problems.

I went to that Whole Foods in downtown Philly back in June.... I will never go back to Philly as long as I live.

What did I miss? Is there talk of a Trader Joe's? I love that place but didn't think they could do business in Colorado because of our crazy-ass liquor laws. They have such great over-stock wine specials, that I figured it was a big part of their revenue. Unless they open business as a "Liquor Store" that happens to sell snacks, as opposed to a "Market" that happens to sell wine?

A brother in-law of mine works with Trader Joe's and he has said that Trader Joe's will not come to Colorado until those laws change. You are correct. They need the wine in their stores for the numbers to work and need to open multiple locations to make a distribution center work. Come on legislature, do something important.....Get Trader Joe's to Colorado!

They might approve liquor sales on Sunday, but I dont think we will see a change to markets selling wine/liquor, etc.

Why not? As we all know, they're already running a pilot program to allow one store in each chain to sell liquor. The only obstacle is liquor stores wanting to keep their hold on the market.

That is exactly right, I believe. I understand trying to protect local businesses, but when the only reason those businesses are so profitable is because of some outdated laws (that in all likelihood hurt the consumer), things need to be reexamined. There need to at least be some sort of compromise if you are not going to let all the stores sell at the same time. Wine and full strength beer, at least, needs to be available in grocery stores.

I would say let everyone compete equally. There are ways to protect liquor stores too. As much as I dislike giving some business advantages over others, I'd take it in this case as it would be a step in the right direction. Here are three:
-Expand to allow sales on Sundays, but only available in alcohol stores on Sundays.
-Limit the amount of alcohol that can be sold at grocery stores.

I would like to see a reversal of the reversal of prohibition. I used to be pro-alcohol, but now seeing how it is one of the single most destructive forces in society, I am in favor of outlawing it altogether and classifying it as a Schedule I drug (potentially addictive with no modern medical uses).

A "no" to prohibition and censorship. Less government is better government. I don't need big brother telling me how to think. Educate people on the dangers of all drugs. Respect freedom of choice.

If you want to let everyone compete equally (I do) then let them compete equally. Sales on Sundays for all takers. I'm not at all interested in helping liquor stores. Why should they get special protection?

In California where I used to live, you could go into Safeway and get liquor. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Here in Boston, happy hours are illegal. My guess is the bars wanted protection from competition from restaurants.

I would abolish all these regulations. Moreover, I would let you sell a car on Sunday.

I hate that city. People are soooo rude. The airport sucks. Also I had a bad break up there, after driving my girlfriend at the time from Denver to Philly I took the 1st flight back to Denver at 3 am 2 days early. Just thinking of that city gives me a headace. Not to mention we got lost in Camden.
