It would be nicer if the rooftop park was level with Columbus and at least semi-public, but of course there's no incentive to the developer to do that. It would have formed a nice extended park and a great transition from the streets of Illinois Center to LSE below, however, and helped mitigate some of the subdivision feel of the place.

It looks really thin from that angle, but I think half of it's hidden behind the Shoreham.

The giant steel trusses for the hotel ballroom are almost all in place (4 out of 6 of them) and they are HUGE: 10' high by 100' long, in order for the ballroom to be a clear, open space.

There will be operable partitions (2) within the ballroom in order to break the spaces out, but overall it's one big, clear span.

Fireproof paint that expands into a thick foam when flame touches it, but otherwise looks like normal paint? Hadn't heard of it before, but that sounds great.
We haven't seen any interior shots yet, but exposed steel is always a good look.

They are more defined because of perspective distortion. The rendering is done as an architectural perspective, not a true perspective. The waves on top may be larger, but not as large as the rendering appears to be. It's a visual trick.

Yeah, exactly. I want to dance the night away under 10' trusses, not a dropped ceiling.

But I forget in the fire code - you might be able to get away without fireproofing the ballroom steel, since it's one story above a concrete frame. Does anyone know off-hand?

That's not going to be a normal looking roof. It'll look more like a bridge with the weight it has to hold up.
Is that the crane that lines up with lake street?
