I contacted someone today about the Metro Park West lofts by pioneer park.... they responded...

Construction is scheduled to begin by the end of this month. At this time
we are in the process of setting square footage and pricing for each unit,
as well as putting together a few renderings to send to our buyers. I will
be providing that information shortly, please look forward to receiving
it.

so, that will add a new nine story building U/C to the list.

plus, the development will be a mixed use building. So that adds retail, office space and residential all in one.

btw, has anyone thought about the density of mid-rises along 4th west lately... this and the gateway hyatt will add very nicely to the 7 story canyon walls. lol

I would love to see something taller along that corridor, even if it were only a 15 story building, somewhere along 300, 400 or 500 west between S. Temple and 600 S. I think it would give the city skyline a little more width and depth(depending on the angle).

Hey Guys,

After checking out the renderings for Metro Park West I was trying to decide how it might sit on the site with respect to surrounding structures. I originally thought that its glassy side would overlook Pioneer Park but I don't see how that would be possible as the property seems to run East/West. If that is how the building will also be oriented I was left wondering if the glassy side would face North towards some really cool vintage brick buildings or South towards the Big D building. Opposite of the glassy side is what looks like a nasty-cold-war-concrete elevation in the renderings. Seems like a design similar to the Broadway Park Lofts would fit in better with the neighbors. (I love the new plan for that project compared to the original by the way)


This is the view from RioGrande Street. The building on the Right bears the same address as Metro Park West and I'm guessing would have to be demolished.

Rededication of Capitol to mirror 1916

The newly restored Capitol is such that if Richard K.A. Kletting, architect of the original structure, were to see it today, he would exclaim, "Oh, it's all here," Martin said.

All these articles are absolutely great news. I presented a report on my project to my graduate class a few weeks ago and I almost felt like I was lying or boasting when I mentioned unemployment rates, economic conditions and vacancy rates in Salt Lake City. The mid-west and parts of the east, especially old industrial cities, see all those things as foreign concepts. Utah truly has an amazing rate of economic growth.

As for the new stores, I can't wait for CCC to open. Taubman has projected 40-60% of the stores in the center to be new to the market. That is a lot of new retailers to hit the Wasatch Front and the State all within a year or two.

That's great viperlord. I've been wondering what was going on with that project.
But yeah since 2000 400 west has seen a far share of new Mid-rises.

From 500 South to North Temple...

Wrendog, I posted this a few months back in a differant thread but I dont know much more about it then this. It will be neat if it all plays out like the plans show.

No Summer Vacation for Salt Lake City International Airport Passenger levels during June and July were extraordinary at Salt Lake City International Airport. The airport handled 2,016,756 passengers in June, a 4.15% increase over last June. During July, 2,113,178 passengers used the airport, a 2.91% increase over last July. Year-to-date, the airport is running a
3.12% increase in passengers compared to the same period in 2006. Fifteen airlines serve Salt Lake City International Airport and
there are 916 scheduled daily flights. Currently, the airport offers nonstop flights to 106 domestic destinations. International
service is offered to 11 destinations aboard 96 scheduled daily flights (average—there are 11 each week). International passenger
numbers increased 23.82% in July and 25.67% in June compared to last year. There are over 81,000 daily airplane seats available
through Salt Lake City International Airport. In terms of passenger levels, the airport is the 23rd largest in the United States and
the 54th largest airport in the world. With regards to take-offs and landings, it is the 14th largest airport in the nation and the 11th
largest in the world. It is now Delta Air Lines’ second largest hub. Along with their commuter airline partners, they operate around
628 scheduled daily domestic flights and nearly all of the scheduled international flights. “We continue to experience constant,
sustained growth”, comments Maureen Riley, Executive Director of the Salt Lake City Department of Airports, “The trend has been
consistent over several years.” As a result, the Salt Lake City Department of Airports is in the process of developing an implementation strategy for a major expansion project. Within the next five years, the airport will construct new gates and support facilities in keeping with the demand it is experiencing. “It is clearly evident that everything that can be done to the airport to accommodate the needs of the airlines has been done,” comments Ms. Riley, “Our mission is now oriented to providing a sound plan for
future development. We have good synergy with our airline partners and, already, it has been an exciting project.”

The need for a new/re-designed Airport does not surprise me. The company I work for went from being a +20 million dollar Co. 4 years ago to +40 mill. Around the Holiday season, peak travel time, it is comparable to being in an ant hill, people everywhere.

The more than three-year, $227 million construction project restored the ornate light fixtures, enormous murals and colors to their original state, and added four towering bronze statues in the corners of the rotunda.
It also strengthened the structure and added 285 base isolators, platforms on which the building now stands allowing it to shift up to two feet in the event of an earthquake. Before the project, a tremor on the nearby fault could have caused the columns in front of the building to buckle and the rotunda to fall in.
