The long-maligned building will be redone with residences and a new look

Stan Castleton, who manages the firm that bought the Main Street Mall, says it will take "the right level of creativity" to redo the building into residences and retailers. The new owners, led by the developer who is building the St. Regis in Deer Crest, now must pursue approvals from City Hall to renovate the hulking, rectangular-shaped building, which has frequently been criticized for disrupting the historic look of Main Street. The government will conceivably be asked to allow the owners to redo the upper floors into residences and renovate the street-level floor for stores.

I have always liked that vantage point of the Downtown area. Its not my favorite, but I like it none the less. Good job Comrade.

Nice job Comrade! I like that view too, epecially when you come around the mountain from Davis county on I-15. Dowtown really does have a lot of potential.

I drove by the Metro Condos yesterday, and it is looking very good! I really am impressed by how it is shaping up. Good material and quality of work. The rendering doesn't do the actual building justice.

Viper, do you or anone else know anything about the development that is going on immediately to the west of Gateway on 200 s? It is an old 3-5 story warehouse that is being revovated and added onto. It's on the northwest corner of 200 south and 500? west. I'm guessing that they are turning those into lofts.

Orlando, I do not know 100% whats going on in that location. I have wondered myself. I do know that the storage units in that area wanted to expand, and maybe the revnovation is thier expansion.

I think the Metro Condos is a great infill project. The finished product will be great. I am a little disappointed that its a wood structure and not steel, however.

Parkite and CloudNine Resorts Club President and Founder Bill Shoaf started making plans to build his new five-star luxury hotel in historic Old Town about five years ago. Shoaf has also reinvented several resort destinations, including Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows in Hawaii, the Mansion on Turtle Creek in Dallas and Bermuda's Elbow Beach Resort.

Shoaf said he couldn't resist when Robert Redford, who frequently visited Shoaf's hotel in Santa Barbara, asked Shoaf to move to Utah to improve his Sundance Resort.

If you were to walk into the finished building you'd likely not be able to tell the difference. There is no reason to contruct the building with a steel frame if an engineered wood structure can be designed to perform just as well.

Artspace buys acreage for new sustainable community

I told you a few weeks ago about this project, and how my company bid on it. It is unsure what the current status of that bid is. But anyways... they finally went public with the information.... The word is that the project will be roughly about the same size as the Bridges at CitiFront Condos. 290 units at the moment. Things could very easily change as the project evolves. So, we shall see. It is unknown what type of format or hieght the project will have yet.

Erector had posted this over on the Utah Valley thread as it was a follow-up on the previous post. I wanted to make sure everyone saw it here over on the Salt Lake thread also, since it's the Sandy issue which we have been discussing quite a bit lately. Does anyone know if this Utah Pacific is a substantial development company? I hadn't heard of them before now.

I know this is a Utah Valley thread and maybe I shouldn't post this here, but since the Wasatch Front building boom was mentioned above, I thought I would see what some of the reaction might be. It will be interesting to see the possible state of Utah tallest in Sandy, only to be overtaken by the Gehry/ Anderson building in Lehi. My how things are a change'n.
