Here is a link to the boom calendar. It looks like 2007 is not up to date. Up to this year 2000 and 2006 led the way in this boom with 25 starts in each of those years. So 2007 is the new leader by far with 30 by my count! Someone may want to double check my count.

I lost the page coding for the Boom Calendar when the thread was restarted, and it's too much work to re-create it. All the data is stored in Emporis however, and I can pull it up shortly after Christmas.

What potential starts are we looking at for the remainder of 2007? I know there's Glashaus and 215 West Washington... anything on the north side? How about Lincoln Park 2520 or maybe The Admiral at the Lake? I'm keeping an eye on 565 Quincy... no idea when the new floors will begin rising from it.

I've been keeping an eye on Admiral by the lake and as of last week they aren't looking like they'll be ready to start with piles or cassions by the end of the year. However, they have completely knocked down all above ground parts of the original structure leaving piles of rubble and the old foundations behind. It looks like all the rubble still needs to be sorted and the or rebar removed before they'll be starting building the new foundations.

I know it's a long shot, but I am hoping this project opens some doors for creative thinking concerning new high-rises outside of the downtown core. Who knows - it might happen?

Between SoNo, the New City tower, the ParkSide midrises, and a couple of other proposals, there looks to be a highrise cluster taking shape along Clybourn from Division to North. This is one area that is destined to completely lose any grittiness it may have had before with Cabrini/Green.

As I remember the whites were supposed to be coming down, but only after much of the "replacement" affordable and public housing is built

As of now I don't know of any plans to tear down the 5 story reds, because historically these sized housing projects have low crime rates
but with the rumors floating around of a redevelopment of lathrop homes, it's possible CHA will be tearing them all down, because people have bad associations.

So my guess is eventually the small reds will be cleared and replaced with large mixed income/use development, maybe with some highrises sprinkled in, but I don't think that's for the best outside of the coast and downtown areas.

I'd rather 3-7 story structures along major roads, and 7-12 around transit stops in that secondary ring outside of downtown

Thanks for the pics of SoNo, i_am_hydrogen. There's a construction site that I can see from my office building. I didn't know the name. Now, I'm pretty sure it's SoNo. It better climb fast, cause from my vantage point, Silver Tower's gonna cover it up soon.

^ It's just painted, perforated metal. I am surprised that it is kind of "slapped on" the front of the balconies, and that it doesn't wrap all the way around (as Hovey might do). Just begging for some ill-advised condo board to rip it off one day.

Absolutely! I dig the project despite the painted concrete aspect of it. But I can't figure out why the towers don't match from the west, as seen in Solarwind's photo above. I think that was a mistake.

harryc - My picture was also taken on the 12th. The top looks a bit different. Is it possible that you captured 757 Orleans instead? See the building towards the bottom left hand corner of my picture? That's the same building as the one to the left of the core in your picture (the color is slightly different due to lighting conditions). I think SoNo should be in back of that building even from your vantage point. What do you think?

You know this Boom is amazing when it's hard to keep the construction sites straight.

Yes I think your right - 757 Orleans is a lot closer, and just N of SoNo West ( the crane I see from the green line ).

I agree, having trouble keeping all the sites straight is a good problem to have.

Yeah, the North tower should have matched the South tower, which doesn't have the blank wall feel. And it does seem silly that they clad 2/3 of the floor plates and painted the rest. Why not clad all at that point?

But I wonder how long the back will be visible? They tore down the only interesting thing on the lot immediately to the west. It looks like there are plans for the site, and the way that parking garage wall was left rough and unfinished makes me think it isn't planned to be empty for long.
Is there a proposal or rumor for that lot? If you include the parking lot on Ontario and that low wharehouse thing, it's good sized.
