Hey just arrived in London for a 6 month stay. I'm currently staying at intl students house and there's a big construction site acros the street with 6 red tower cranes, a concrete core is growing... Do you have rendreings for that building? Sorry if it has already been posted, didn't want to go through all the posts! Thanks!

QINVEST, an Islamic Investment bank operating in Qatar, is tipped to finance the construction of the Shard of Glass.
It follows comments formulated by QInvest CEO Abdullatif Almeer. Overall QINVEST would take part in developing a $2.9 bn real estate project in London.
I reckon discussions are at preliminary stage. Other possible projects include Minerva's Walbrook currently under construction.

Wait and see...

Yeah, considering London has what are probably the best skyscraper projects in Europe you would think it would have more attention.

My thoughts exactly. There was a ton of stuff going on there while I was there over the summer. Hell, I even updated this forum once, and I don't live there.

cheers for the updates Jef - I've been watching the cranes go up etc and seen the renderings on the side of 'Canary Quarter' and was a little confused - has planning permission been granted for the second phase tower?

Preliminary works are underway as you pointed out and first units of Phase 2 are now on sale. Thanks very much for your high quality updates of development at CW.

One fantastic shot of the City of London found on flickr (sorry for the credit).
Imagine that view with the Leadenhall Building...

The 3D model of Heron Quays West, 3 interlinked towers designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour, Canary Wharf.

This proposal is the new jewel of the docks with its external suspension structures and stainless steel and/or aluminium.
In this rendering, basements of Riverside South are u/c.

Interesting paper in the FT today about London skyscrapers.

It is hinted the abandonment of at least one of the 5 big projects (Heron, Pinnacle, Fenchurch, Shard, Leadenhall), and amongst them the Pinnacle and the Shard proposed by less experienced developers.

Remind these projects were initiated almost 10 years ago. Russia Tower anyone?

It does not come as a surprise re. the Shard. Personnally I have always been highly sceptical re. Pinnacle as well. The developer - the fund I should say) has signed the contract for demolition. But it has until now failed to conclude the transaction with Multiplex to build the tower.

I still reckon the City will see two new towers by 2012: Leadenhall and Heron. We will know by February if British Land decides to delay the construction of Leadenhall, which is a real possibility.
