" Well architect with some knowledge of aesthetics, I know better than you what will look good. Our company wants something a little more... hmm, what's the right word.. f'n awful.. for our newest condo project.. please revise that decently attractive design you'd previously created."

Some people have wondered about the apartment tower planned for the site directly north of the proposed Waldorf=Astoria Tower. Here are a few crappy renderings. As you can see, the parking garage base needs serious work. The side overlooking the small proposed pocket park and faces W=A is totally blank.

Ugh....

^^Interesting stuff....The parking podium should be covered with glass for consistency's sake.

so can someone show on a map how this and W=A are layed out? That rendering totally threw me off base of where I though the project was.

Nice highrise. I definitely agree that the ugly brown cladding on the podium has gotta go

Ah-ha.

So 535 is on the other side of Grand Ave?

Well, 535 St. Clair has done the impossible. It makes the 550 St. Clair parking podium look like a masterpiece.
That "design" is nausiatingly awful. Come on, I have zero architecture training, and I can doodle a better design than that. I think I just might send some hate mail tomorrow.

Is this in SOAR's jurisdiction? Are they going to do something about that? If there's a time for NIMBYism, this is it!

For the W=A rental tower, it looks much better than I'd hoped for. I like the recessed balconies, it's sleek. The brown and blue do go well together, I agree, and I like the dark stripes at each floor plate.
The crown is boring, and yeah the podium needs work, but as 535 St. Clair can testament, maybe we should just count our blessings? It could be a lot worse.

It's better than Cityfront Plaza Phase II.

It kind of reminds me of Parkview West in terms of massing.

Just look at the renders and models on page 1 of the W=A thread. The rental is at the north end of the lot, W=A is at the south end.

My first reaction was meh. But then I realized we've been spoiled with W-A and ParkView West lately, and most cities would be thrilled to have something like this. So I'm just kind-of meh now.

Who is the architect?

SCB.

I think that the parking base shold be wraped with small affordable studio apartments. It'll solve the problem of the ugly base, and it will allow for visible life and activity for the entire tower.
